It’s a common misconception that hot cars are the main danger causing pets to overheat in summer. In reality, over-exertion during walks is the leading cause of heatstroke in dogs, making up an astonishing 74% of cases.

This risk is greater for dogs that are:
Brachycephalic (flat faced)
Overweight
Elderly
Have underlying heart or respiratory conditions..and also young, active dogs whose excitement and activity level can overcome
their ability to keep themselves cool ☀️🐕

As temperatures rise, take extra care with short-snouted pets.

Brachycephalic breeds like pugs, bulldogs and French bulldogs face a significantly increased risk of heatstroke compared to long-snouted dogs.

Because of their conformation, flat-faced breeds are less efficient at cooling themselves through panting, meaning they can overheat quickly even on mild days.
