🐾 Part Time Kennel Assistant Vacancy 🐾

We are a very small family run business in the beautiful Northamptonshire Countryside, seeking an additional member of the team to help support the increasing success and popularity of Glassthorpe Luxury Dog Hotel.

Saturdays & Bank Holidays 09:00 - 17:30 (approx hours)
Other days required, but these are flexible depending on the candidates existing schedule.

The flexibility to swap/work additional days to cover other staff absence is essential.

You must be confident, proactive, efficient and hard working!
This is a rewarding role which you can make your own, but it can also be difficult being on your feet all day in all weathers, covered in mud and dog hair..

Duties will include checking in/out dogs, answering phone calls and directing enquiries, supervising dogs at play, feeding, cleaning, administering medication - you will mostly be working alone and therefore need to be proactive and trustworthy. There are many aspects to this role and it will take several months of training for candidates to reach the high level of experience and knowledge required.

Part uniform is provided and you will receive pro-rata holiday pay. Whilst qualifications are not essential (they are preferred) you will need to show experience in a similar role that demonstrates knowledge and reliability.

I don’t often share personal news on the Glassthorpe page, but I have the greatest pleasure in sharing this photo 😊

You may have seen my face a little less at Glassthorpe over the last 2 years and this is the reason why.

When I’m not looking after your 4 legged ones, I’m training/working/competing my own.

I’m very fortunate to train with a small group of very wonderful people and an even more wonderful trainer (I don’t know how he puts up with us sometimes 😂)

And this weekend all of our hard work was rewarded... little Freda was on my side (for a change) and had a fantastic day on the job.

When arriving and leaving PLEASE be considerate and drive at an appropriate speed.

First and foremost we are a working farm and family home, there are people and animals on site who are put at risk when clients race up and down the drive.

My Story

For those who haven’t yet met me - I’m Lottie, and Glassthorpe Luxury Dog Hotel is my pride and absolute joy. And for those who haven’t yet walked through the doors, here’s a little bit to explain how I run things here.

My background is mainly in farming and general animal care; I started a small dog walking business in 2016. After four or more years of planning, I was fortunate enough to be able to open Glassthorpe in August 2017.

The facilities are brand-spanking-new thanks to the help of KennelBuild who not only held my hand through the entire process, but did an amazing job of putting everything together and creating something that is not only beautiful, but safe for dogs and appealing to owners.

Our rooms are split into two sections; the bedding areas have glass fronts which means dogs can look out into the corridor to see what’s going on. The other side is more private and gives them room to play.

That being said, they don’t spend much time in their rooms! I try to run things quite sociably, and encourage small groups of dogs to potter about the paddocks during the day. For those who aren’t quite as sociable, we spend 1-on-1 time to ensure they get the same amount of fun and TLC.

Our guests are usually exhausted by the end of the day, and although we get the odd bark here and there, it’s quiet and relaxed. This means we can cater for more anxious dogs that wouldn’t be able to cope with a standard “kennel” environment.

Although we have 16 rooms and can accommodate up to 23 dogs - I actually prefer to have smaller numbers. Having less dogs to look after means that the individual care they receive is better, and they can spend more time doing what they want to do - be naughty!

The average number of guests is about 10, and this excludes Monty my black labrador - who is C.O.M. Chief of Mischief...and then there’s Gladys the corgi, who usually prefers to sulk in the house knowing that her Mother is playing with other dogs.

Because I’m always with the dogs, I quite often don’t answer the phone as I’d be distracted from looking after them. Most people learn after several missed calls that it’s best to send me an email, and I can look at it when a spare moment appears.

I think that explains a bit about it all - if you’re thinking of booking your little one in somewhere, I recommend getting in touch well in advance as we do book up quickly. We can arrange a visit and/or an induction and hopefully you’ll be back time and time again.
