Hey guys, its been a while since we’ve done a bathing tutorial and with the Christmas season finally at an end, its time for Peanut to get a much needed wash! At the moment his shedding isn’t too bad so we are going in with strawberry & vanilla, a nice conditioning wash.
Dilute the shampoo in a jug, Usually you can eye ball it but its around a 30:1 dilution. Pour onto a dry coat and the trick here is to use a shower puff. These will be your best friend! I always recommend just to support the inside of the leg when washing them to keep them steady.
Give the face a quick little scrub just to lift the dirt. Its only the first wash and here we are really just aiming to lift the dirt of the skin. Don’t expect a lot of foam on the first wash, especially on dirty dogs. The surfactants are working their magic behind the scenes.
Rinse & Repeat but this time you will see lots more foam and this is where you tend to get the “Squeaky clean” feel. Thoroughly rinse and its time for conditioner.
We are using the coconut conditioner as I need something lightweight for Peanut as he obviously hasn’t got any matting or tangles. Add a big blob in a jug and mix with water. Apply it all over the coat as this will help smoothen, soften and add shine. Its really important to condition as this balances the ph and closes the cuticle. And yes, you still need to condition. Even if your dogs short haired. Shampoo & Conditioner go hand in hand.
