For the second week in succession, Jo and I were invited to judge a dog show.

This one was at Soudley and once again we were honoured to have been asked although the task of judging, as always was difficult and all the digs we saw were lovely.

Delighted to be judging the Offas D**e Riding Club dog show with my lovely Joanne Howard.

Everyone thinks they have the best dog and no-one is wrong.

The dogs and owners were lovely and we were happy to be asked.

Although only 17c, according to the van, I felt it was sufficiently warm, in the sun, to head for the shade.
This particular walk also has the benefit of a small stream alongside.
We're so lucky to live in the Forest of Dean, with it's abundance of broadleaf woodland.
Shown are Chester, Jenny, Milly and Loki.

Posh Paws Pet Care week ending 19th of May 2024.
Enjoying the warmer weather and finding shade and water when required.
We attended Bark in the Park at Speach House today and it was lovely to see so many in attendance with their beloved pets.
A good representation of our idea of doggy heaven and the sun has shone all day.🙂

Posh Paws Pet Care week ending 12th May 2024.

We we've been blessed with some sunshine and warm weather this week which has made us run for cover, literally innthe shade of the trees. We have a few about these parts.
Wednesday was a short day as we said a sad goodbye to our lovely neighbour, Roy, who passed recently.
On Friday we were invited to dinner with our clients where we dined in style on a sumptuous home cooked meal. Thank you Vicky and Mark.
Our friends dog, Teddy, has, temporarily joined the gang while his pawrents are on holiday and is proper little character.
We continue to love the way our business is going.🙂

Well it's been several weeks so it's high time that I posted something and updated you all with regards to what we've been up to although the pictures will paint thousands of words.
After a hectic March, where we only spent six nights at home, April, thankfully, was more normalised.
We continue to attract more business which, sadly, has meant that we've found it necessary to release two sweet spaniels that we've had to let go as we seek to bring our travelling distances down as this negatively impacts upon our working day.
We spoke to pawrents, Finn and Katie, as we had another business in mind who were Cinderford based while giving them an assurance that we would not leave them without cover. In the end the business we recommended took over and the parting was amicable which is always a nice way to do business.
I have been busy populating Quickbooks and migrating records across as this is now our chosen business management software which will do much of the hard work for us and make sure that our first tax return is not only timely but accurate.

The weather continues to tempt us with glimpses of what may be before plunging us back into wintery weather once more although the Bluebells provide a heady aroma and confirmation that Spring is actually here and well underway.

We still can't believe we're doing this for a living.🥰🥰🥰

Our story … 📖

In 1976, from their house on Bowson Road in Bream, Angela and Terry’s journey began. Their passion for dogs, and love for their local community, saw them embark on a venture to supply the Forest of Dean with high quality dog food. Their commitment to quality led them to local abattoirs, to source the freshest ingredients for the production of their raw dog food, and relationships with major brands like Yippie and Skinners were built, to secure partnerships that endure to this day. Alongside this endeavor, they distinguished themselves as reputable gun dog breeders under the prefix Knockley (or Knocklee, due to a trademark issue at the time), inspired by the nearby Knockley Woods.

By the 1980’s, their small business had flourished, and it was time for expansion. Angela and Terry would cease working from their home and open their first shop on No.1 Hill Street in Lydney (Inspirations trade from here today), marking the establishment of the Knockley Dog Foods name we know today. Over the following years, they furthered their business with branches at Waterside Court, and Gloucester Road in Coleford; which they managed with help from their two daughters, Alison and Louise.

In the mid-1990s, Angela and Terry sold both of their branches and, together with their daughter Alison, consolidated their efforts to focus on what has become our shop on the main road through Bream.

Over the next 30 years, our family business has continued to blossom, from humble beginnings into a cherished cornerstone of the local community. As we’ve nurtured our business, we’ve also watched our loyal customers evolve; witnessing them grow up, start families, and entrust us with their beloved pets’ care. In turn, our customers have seen our own family grow and flourish, from infancy to adulthood, with each generation contributing their passion and dedication to the shop’s success.

Regretfully, In December 2019 the family experienced a profound loss with the passing of Terry. While his memory remains dear to us, Angela, Alison, Lynn, and Joseph continue to lead Knockley Dog Foods, and as we move forward, the original commitment of serving the Forest of Dean with high quality pet products remains unwavering. Here’s to the next 50 years!👏🏼

Posh Paws Pet Care week in pictures.

It's been a funny old week weather wise but mostly poor conditions.

We lost two temporary but long term clients this week, Finnegan and Daisy the lurchers which saddens us as they are so lovely, bright and spirited. They and their lovely owners will be misses but we remain grateful to have been entrusted with their care for so long.

We were commended by Marlows vets for correctly seeking care for Lottie, the Wheaten Terrier who was in our care, the most important thing being her welfare but we'll also take the prize.

Living with a very old dog means feeling your heart speeding up every time you see them a little more still than usual and approaching with the fear that they have stopped breathing.

Living with a very old dog means being aware that some of the things you'll do together may be the last.

Living with a very old dog means thinking ′′ this is their last summer ", ′′ this is their last July ", ′′ This could be the last morning".

Living with a very old dog means they bark at any noise at any time, not because they know what they are barking at, its they feel they need to bark and let us know.

Living with a very old dog means, you have to lift them up into the truck, the bed, the couch, the stairs.

Living with a very old dog means putting off commitments because it's important to be close to them.

Living with an old dog means we trip over them because they are so sound asleep they don't hear us approaching them.

Living with an old dog means accidents in the house, its ok they don't mean to do it.

Living with a very old dog means feeling guilty because you know you could have done more, giving them more runs, more travel, more hugs, more caresses, more everything.

I would like to say that living with a very old dog also puts us in the face of our own death, fragility, vulnerability.

Living with a very old dog means we got to experience life with a very old dog, which is one of the best joys on earth!
