Great few days at Competing Devon County Show, Joe having a great go for his first competition and coming 4th in the 1st and 2nd years thoroughly deserved for all his dedication! And the hind job from the fireman doorman pairs class cheers to for coming down great to work with you buddy! Was great to see good friends and thanks to everyone involved in organising an awesome competition!

Finishing the week with a bit of problem solving! Thoroughbred presenting with a hind lateral heel avulsion and solar pe*******on wound with subsequent sub solar infection. Due to weather conditions traditional fixing methods weren't an option and needed to keep the applied package as light as I could so come up with a whip across lateral extension bar shoe with hospital plate from aluminium and glued on with methyl methacrylate. This allowed protection to site and me to float the affected heel. Owner will continue to apply topical treatment and dressing under the removable hospital plate! Thanks to for their swift and valuable help on the case!

Having a few good practice runs on horses the last couple of days, cheers to my good mate for coming down from Gloucestershire to help with the practice! Hind heart bar 17” of 1” x 5/16” and a straight bar front from 15 1/2” of 1” x 5/16” both hammer finish and a 3/4 fullered front from 15” of 1” x 3/8”

One of the Birthday Jobs today a referral case from the local vets, applied a pair of Moreaid squish pads to help a recovering laminitic shetland. Applied a with a first fix of cyanoacrylate then fully fixed with acrylic! Thanks to the for some awesome products

Merry Christmas Everyone that’s a wrap from us for 2023! What a year it’s been thank you for all your support and custom, I’m sure 2024 is going to be a belter! Been a big week finishing up thanks to Joe and Dave for their hard work here’s the excited mascots and a couple of Apprentice Joes handmades going on feet this week 13 3/4” of 1” x 7/16” Hunter hind and 18 1/2” of 1 1/4” x 1/2” Shire front top effort bud great job for year one block one!

Make and fit on the last stop today, make and fit concave straight bar hospital plate to protect a recent solar pe*******on injury and subsequent sub-solar infection! Gives vital protection to the trauma site and still easily allows owner to topically treat and poultice with Animalintex with the quick unscrew of a bolt!

Case from a couple of weeks ago, lightweight hunter with a recurrent sub mural infections and intermittent lameness. After a joint consultation with the vet and clear radiographs we decided to resect the affected area and then applied a fabricated Heartbar shoe and created a structural bridge from acrylic and Kevlar webbing to ensure stability and prevent any hoof capsule distortion. By leaving the proximal leading edge of the site open it allowed any topical treatment to be applied or any repeat reinfection to be addressed if needed be!

A fabricated lateral extension today, working with the veterinarian on rehabilitation from a stifle injury. The extension helps stabilise the limb in the stance phase and reduces torque in the anterior phase of the stride

Nice make and fit out the back of the truck to finish the day on a lovely competition horse, Concave spiral medial lift 13 1/2 “ of 3/4” x 7/16” accompanied with a 3D hoof care full mesh pad and soft Impression material packing!

First call just around the corner this morning! What a start to the day! Shoeing the first two up with Joe’s handmade concave shoes, Joe has just started his apprenticeship with us and is currently away on his first block at college. If you haven’t met him yet he’ll be back out shoeing at the end of the month!

Vet referral today presenting a Mediolateral imbalance on a large draught mare, opted for a spiral shoe with chamfered lateral branch to suit the horses conformation and footfall to aid in prevention of any dynamic movement causing further imbalance. Handmade out of 16 1/2 “ of 1” x 1/2” concave and nailed up with some mustad E8s

Little throwback to a job last week, a Polymer Urethane extension to a windswept foal. Although the combination of limited exercise and the spontaneous correction from the foal itself, in conjunction with the veterinary surgeon it was felt an extension was needed to help the valgus confirmation of the left hind along a little more. We will be keeping an eye on this little one every few days and modifying / trimming when necessary! 🏇🏻🏇🏻
