Black Cricket Animal Services can offer an all-round care package for your precious pets, a bespoke service, with standalone services or a combination of several for regular and ad hoc bookings. Cuddles and fuss a plenty for your animals who enjoy / need it. We are also specialised in animal law, and teaching and lecturing in the animal industry. In a voluntary capacity we help and support animal rescue, and pets belonging to the homeless population (providing them with health checks, food, flea and worming treatment, coats, blankets etc.). Experienced working with zoo animals and livestock, we can also provide support when an extra hand is required in zoos, farms and small holdings. We are passionate about all animals and have qualified to high academic levels in animal care, animal management, animal science and animal law. The welfare of the animals in our care is paramount and we are continuously updating our skills and knowledge through in-house and external training, receiving further certification in areas such as animal first aid, administration of medication, COSHH, animal transport licence (cert. While we love caring for and working with a range of animals, we also enjoy working with people. We have a range of vehicles that we use for our services, with all of them being MOTd, taxed, fully insured and following the laws regarding the transportation of animals. Where required for specific journeys and animals, drivers hold the Certificate of Competence for animal transportation. Some of our vehicles are used for our pet taxi service, which are available for visits to the vets, the groomers, cattery or kennels etc. Whereas the transit has been used to help pick up large enclosures and deliver them to animal rescue centre or individual fosterer. Even with our local pet visits and walking, we will always attend in one of our vehicles, in case of an emergency, whereby we need to help you or your pet. We really care about animals. We are more than just a "pet sitting service". We do not charge "per dog" for dog walking, we offer discounts on many of our services to people on certain benefits, employees within specific sectors, rescue animals and more. Certain bespoke bookings can also be given with a considerable discount. And, some of our services are done for free! We also support local organisations, homeless pets and animal charities. As you can see, it's not about the money for us... we just love all creatures great and small! Please do not hesitate to contact us for more information about our service or to make a booking.

*** This gorgeous boy has just been adopted ***
*** Thank you to everyone who applied to adopt him ***

We urgently need to find a loving home for a male Staffordshire Bull Terrier cross aged 5 months old.

He has been living with a female Cane Corso. Not cat tested.

Great with children including toddlers.

Excellent temperament. A little shy around new and unfamiliar people and environments.

He enjoys play time and has learnt basic commands such as 'sit' and 'down'.

He is also crate trained.

Such a sweetheart that needs a caring and understanding owner that will enjoy giving him time for play and lots of fuss and cuddles.

Sadly and unfortunately he has been determined by the UK Government as a banned breed under the new definition and the new owner needs to be aware that they must comply with all necessary legal requirements in order to keep him, which will include muzzling him in public, keeping him on a lead in public, having third party insurance, up-to-date microchip, and Certificate of Exemption.

A virtual home check will be required.

Serious enquiries only please as time is running out.

Based in Bedfordshire.

Please contact [email protected] or call 01763 289827.

"All is not lost", we are here to help.
Along with the help and support we already provide to XL Bullies and their owners, today Black Cricket Animal Services partnered up with a couple of other rescuers and rescue to locate and approve temporary foster homes and permanent adoptive homes for XL bullies and "types", as well as seek appropriate transportation to their destinations. And, we continue to be available to vets and pounds that are still holding XL bullies and types.

We will be taking bundles of newspaper to RATS rescue, which is surplus to our rescue work. If you have anything, including the lurcher collars, as below, that you would like to donate, but haven't got transport to take it there yourself please let us know. We have plenty of space in the van.

🌟 Lurcher Collar Appeal 🌟

Anyone having a pre-Christmas clear out?

We are looking for Lurcher collars please, we do have quite a few lurchers come through our doors and as they don’t wear a standard collar we run out pretty quickly!

If you do have any collars that are in good condition that would be great or if you would like to donate a new one then even better!

You can drop off at the kennels:

Highfields Kennels
Hare Street
Buntingford
Hertfordshire
SG9 0AD

Thank you 🐶💚

The photo is of our own beautiful Pippa, if you are looking to help a lurcher, take a look at her profile and get in touch 👉 www.rats-animalrescue.co.uk/dogs/pippa

If you have recently sent Black Cricket Animal Services a message and haven't yet received a reply, please accept our sincere apologies.

The Christmas and New Year period is always our busiest time of the year, however with the forthcoming ban on XL bullies and "types" on 31 December, it has become even busier.

While we aim to respond within 24 hours, this may not be possible but we will respond as soon as we can. Thank you for your understanding at this time.

*** Good news! Rehomed! ***

Urgently need to find wonderful X a fur-ever home due to the incoming ban on rehoming. X is a brown and white American Bulldog. She is currently staying in private temporary accommodation in Bedford.

X was abandoned by her previous owner but despite this she is a wonderful dog. She is bright young adult that enjoys playing and exploring and is happy to go to new and unfamiliar places. She is an excellent traveller and very happy to stay in her crate for journeys.

X is happy to meet new people, is instantly friendly and loving towards everyone, and she has a very waggy tail. She really is a sweetheart and everyone who has met X has fallen in love with her. She adores affection, fuss, cuddles, belly rubs, snuggles on the sofa and companionship from humans.

Loving her creature comforts, X will happily sleep in your bed but she can snore when she's all cosy in it, however, she sleeps throughout the night without issue.
X can be left for short periods at home and once settled, will be able to be left for longer periods of time if provided with enrichment for these times. She will also need a secure garden to run around in and play with her toys.

She is social around other dogs but can get a little over excited and playful, this is especially if she spots a dog out on her walks, she will pull strongly on the lead. Therefore, she will need at least one strong adult in the household to take her out for her walks and also be willing to carry on her training. She is very treat-orientated and will do well with her training.

✅Knows a few basic commands.
✅Must live with at least one strong adult living in the household.
✅Can live with dog-savvy children.
✅Can be left for short periods at home alone.
✅She is more suited to a home without any other dogs.
✅Not cat tested. Not small furries tested.
✅Is bright and will love to attend dog training classes.
✅Adores fuss and attention.
✅Loves to run around and play.
✅Is housetrained.

X is a bull breed and is sadly determined by UK government as an illegal breed, under the new definition. The registered owner will be expected to comply with all the necessary legal requirements in order to keep the dog. This will include holding a Certificate of Exemption, maintaining third party insurance, keeping the dog on a lead and muzzled at all times in public places, having her neutered, have up-to-date contact details on her microchip. More information on this can be found on the Dogs Trust website http://www.dogstrust.org.uk/.../at-home/american-bully-xl

To ensure that X has a permanent home, if the adopter is based in or around the Bedford area, Black Cricket Animal Services will provide advice and support to the new owner for completing the application for exemption and muzzle training. We will also be on hand for dog sitting, overnight stays and more when you need to go away urgently or if you want to go on holiday. And a fully qualified canine behaviourist will also provide support and training if / when the adopter requires it.

We urgently need to find X the perfect new home. All members of the household must be on board to welcome her into the home. Please think carefully and responsibly as there are a lot of things to think about when taking on a new dog , even more so with having one defined as an “XL bully type” by the Government, due to the new law.

If you live in rented accommodation you must ensure that your landlord will accept you having dogs that hold certificates of exemption, or “banned breeds”.

Commenting will be turned off, please only make direct enquiries if you meet the criteria above and are seriously interested in adopting X.

But she is now safe and secure and going to have the best life she deserves 🥰

We'll keep you updated on how she is once she's fully settled 🐶

This is just so heart breaking. The deadline is fast approaching.

If you are not already aware, despite the ban you can still own an XL bully or type (but it needs to be done before 31 December), there are just a few rules you have to follow (which in the grand scheme of things) are quite small really, Black Cricket Animal Services can help and support you through the exemption process and into the future with a whole range of services.

URGENT APPEAL: We’re currently seeking responsible and loving forever homes for our beautiful XL bullies: Roy, Morris & Roxy
As these are special cases given the upcoming change in government legislation (the dogs will have to exempted before 31st December 2023), we’re offering comprehensive support packages to the adopters, including ongoing advice, muzzle training and priority neutering and spaying. All the dogs come insured and the provider has committed to providing ongoing health insurance beyond the breed re-classification if the new owners keep up insurance payments.

Anyone interested in adopting any of the dogs should apply via their pages:
https://dogshome.net/dog-for-adoption/roy/
https://dogshome.net/dog-for-adoption/morris/
https://dogshome.net/dog-for-adoption/roxy-4/

No negative comments please; our charity’s motto is “Give a dog a chance”, and this is all about re-homing dogs who have come into our care through no fault of their own.

*** Homes urgently needed for these two beautiful girls that are at the top of the 'kill list' ***

Urgently seeking homes for these two girls. Both are top of the list list to be euthanised through no fault of their own, but because they both come under the classification of XL Bully types.
They are desperately needing new homes now and definitely before the ban comes into effect on 31 December. Click on their photograph to read a brief description and if you are interested in adopting or would like to know more, in the first instance please contact [email protected]

Information about Coco, another bully desperately looking for a home, is a couple of posts down on our page.

If you are interested in adopting an "XL bully type" but unsure of what the ban entails, we are happy to provide you with information about the law, advice and support from the exemption process to muzzle training. And if you are local to us, as with all other XL bullies and XL bully types (holding the Certificate of Exemption) we at Black Cricket Animal Services , will be continuing to care for them as pop-in visits, sitting, overnight stays and for walking (while following the new law).

❤️FANTASTIC NEWS - COCO NOW HAS A FUREVER HOME ❤️

*** Several enquiries have now been received which the rescue are now following up. If you are seriously interested in Coco, please still make contact with the rescue (details at the bottom of the post)***

🐶 Let’s Help To Find A Fur-Ever Home For Coco in Time For Christmas! 🐶

Coco is a beautiful 2 year old girl that was sadly neglected and abandoned by her owners before being taken into the care of the local animal rescue, RATS – Rehoming Animal Telephone Service. Since then she has come on in leaps and bounds and is a sweetheart. Unfortunately for her, she is an XL bully and with the government’s forthcoming ban from the 31st December, it makes the search for a home even more urgent.

Due to the change in law, from 31st December it will not be possible for Coco to find a new home, it has to be now!

Coco is a very sweet girl and is already spayed, vaccinated and chipped. Her manners are exceptional, she is extremely friendly, has a zest for life, is bouncy and walks beautifully on a lead. She would love to find a home she could call her own, with as many belly rubs as possible.

She is currently working with a dog trainer and responding well to training. As a large breed she is a strong girl but trust me, having an XL bully will give you a great workout - she will keep you physically and mentally fit and healthy.

Coco would be suitable in a home that has children older than 12 years, she could live with a (male) dog but not cats or other small mammals.

Through RATS, full support will be given to the new owner from the exemption process to behaviour and training support.

And if you are local to us, as with all other XL bullies and XL bully types (holding the Certificate of Exemption) we, Black Cricket Animal Services will be continuing to care for them as pop-in visits, sitting, overnight stays and for walking (while following the new law).

If you feel that you can offer Coco a fur-ever home, please do not hesitate to complete the Adopter Enquiry Form (which will give you info on the adoption process, fees etc.) https://forms.gle/uw2zLp8Lwzf9qMFa8 and they will get back to you as soon as possible. Alternatively if you have any queries, email [email protected]

Please share this post far and wide. Let's get Coco a fur-ever home and in time for Christmas! 🐶🏠🎄

Tuesday Tails: Baby Jesus wasn't the only one to find the crib warm and cozy

In Santa Catarina, Brazil, in 2008 an outside nativity scene had been set up on the central square of Criciúma for the celebration of Christmas. And, just as Mary and Joseph had taken refuge in a stable (as there was "no room at the inn"), a homeless German Shepherd pup was also seeking shelter.
When people came to see the newly set up nativity scene, they were amazed to see that the puppy was fast asleep in the manger alongside baby Jesus. The dog was usually seen roaming the streets.

It is not known what happened to this German Shepherd, but one can only hope that someone with a kind heart and a beautiful soul took them in and gave them a permanent loving home in which to stay.

Thursday Thoughts: have you already organised you pet's medication over the Christmas holidays?

If your pet has medication please check that you have enough to cover the Christmas holidays. If you haven't or don't think you'll have enough to last, to avoid any last minute panic please contact your veterinary surgery soon, ideally within the next week, so this can be organised.
With most veterinary practices closed for at least a couple of days for the Christmas and New Year period (except for emergencies) and the festive season already being stressful enough for many, to avoid any additional stresses this year, it's wise to sort out the pills, potions and lotions now.

"It's the most wonderful time of the year" and we are continuing to provide pet care throughout the Christmas and New Year holidays 🎄

Pets still need feeding, walking, play, fuss and cuddles, litter tray and enclosure cleaning, and small animal boarding during this festive season, and we are looking forward to seeing them all in the mornings, afternoons, evenings and overnights.

If you find yourself needing urgent / emergency pet care during the holidays, please do contact us.
