I need to write about normal.

An increasing number of people are giving up their dogs because they can't cope. However this seems to be because they do not really have an idea of what "normal" is and have a rather fantasy idea of what a dog should be.

Dogs are not people, however much we love them and it is important that this is realised.

The following things are all normal and any new dog owner needs to understand this:-
Puppies do not come ready trained and it is down to the new owner to work hard for a couple of years to do that training.
Puppies (all breeds) bite - it hurts.
Puppies chew stuff up. If you leave it lying around it will get eaten.
Puppies take a while to get house trained. The owner has to stand shivering in the garden at bedtime until the results happen. This can last for months.
Puppies - and indeed dogs - need to sleep a lot and should be left alone whilst doing so. They are not toys to be constantly carried around and petted.
Brain training toys do not make up for positive interaction and training with their owner.
Dogs rarely need clothes and wearing them indoors (except possibly for very old dogs) will make skin problems more likely.
Dogs don't necessarily like other dogs. They squabble can growl at each other and even fight. This is normal.
Bi***es come in season and have phantom pregnancies. These are normal body functions and should not cause anxiety.
Dogs and bi***es hump each other and objects. Not socially acceptable to humans but perfectly norma.
Dogs do not do spiteful or dominance or deliberate naughty or lots of other emotions people put on them They live for the day and can't differentiate between your new shoes and their toys.
If you spend your money in soft beds they will explode. The dog does not care how much it cost.
If a dog is bored or anxious it will chew stuff - this includes your sofa if you are daft enough to leave him unattended with it.

Dogs need exercise, love and attention and lots of training. They don't always get it right. If you can't accept all these normal things about a dog, please don't get one as the numbers being given up for normal behaviour is heartbreaking.

The following information has been copied from the governments website, links at the bottom of the post. As always, please contact us if you need any support 🧡

‼️New Law‼️

From 31 December 2023 breeding, selling, advertising, rehoming, abandoning and allowing an XL Bully dog to stray will be illegal.

Under the new rules, which come into force at the end of the year, it will be illegal to breed, sell, advertise, exchange, gift, rehome, abandon or allow XL Bully dogs to stray in England and Wales.

From this date, these dogs must be kept on a lead and muzzled in public. Owners of XL Bully dogs are recommended to start training their dog to wear a muzzle and to walk on a lead ahead of the legal restrictions coming into force.

Breeders have also been told to stop mating these types of dogs from now in preparation of it being a criminal offence to sell or rehome these dogs.

From 1 February 2024 , it will then become illegal to own an XL Bully dog if it is not registered on the Index of Exempted Dogs. By staggering these two dates, current owners of this breed will have time to prepare for these new rules.

Owners who wish to keep their dogs will have until the end of January to register them and will be forced to comply with strict requirements. As well as being muzzled and kept on a lead in public, these dogs must also be microchipped and neutered.

Dogs under one year when the ban comes in must be neutered by the end of the year, older dogs must be neutered by the end of June.

From 1 February, owners without a Certificate of Exemption face a criminal record and an unlimited fine if they are found to be in possession of an XL Bully type, and their dog could be seized.

Owners may choose to have their dog put to sleep by a vet, with compensation provided to help with these costs. Further details on how to apply for compensation and the evidence required to make a claim will be provided soon.

As part of the process, the definition of the ‘XL Bully’ breed type has also been published today. This follows meetings of an expert group, convened by the Environment Secretary and made up of police, local authority, vets and other animal welfare experts to help define the breed. The definition provides clear assessment criteria for owners and enforcement authorities and is a requirement under the Dangerous Dogs Act in order to deliver the ban.

Owners whose dogs are dangerously out of control are already breaking the law, and the enforcement authorities have a full range of powers to apply penalties to them. Under the Dangerous Dogs Act, people can be put in prison for up to 14 years, be disqualified from ownership or their dangerous dogs can be euthanised.

🐾🎃 Keeping Your Pup Happy at Halloween! 🎃🐾

Halloween is just around the corner, and while it's a spooktacular time for humans, it can be a bit unsettling for our furry friends. Here are some tips to ensure your dog has a tail-wagging good time during this festive season:

1. Keep Costumes Comfy: If you're dressing up your dog, make sure their costume is comfortable and doesn't restrict movement. Watch for any signs of discomfort and remove the costume if necessary.

2. Candy Caution: Keep all Halloween sweets and treats out of your dog's reach. Chocolate, sweet wrappers, and artificial sweeteners can be harmful to them. Offer dog-safe treats as an alternative.

3. Doorbell Drama: Trick-or-treaters ringing the doorbell can be stressful for dogs. Consider keeping your dog in a quiet room away from the front door to reduce anxiety. You can even play soothing music or use a white noise machine to mask the doorbell's sound.

4. Decorate Dog-Friendly: Be mindful of decorations. Some can be hazardous if chewed or ingested. Avoid small decorations your dog might be tempted to swallow, and ensure any electrical cords are safely tucked away.

5. Safe Pumpkin Play: If you're using pumpkins for decor, be cautious of candles and open flames. Opt for battery-operated candles to prevent any accidents.

6. Leash Up for Walks: During Halloween festivities, it's a good idea to keep your dog on a lead when going for walks. Some dogs may be spooked by costumes or unfamiliar sights, so a lead helps you maintain control and keep your dog safe.

7. ID Tags and Microchips: With people coming and going, make sure your dog's ID tags and microchip information are up to date. This provides extra peace of mind in case your pup gets spooked and darts out the door.

8. Take a Paws from Parties: Not all dogs enjoy Halloween parties and gatherings. If you're hosting or attending one, consider your dog's comfort level and provide a quiet space where they can relax.

9. Nighttime Walks: If you're walking your dog after dark, make sure they're visible. Use reflective gear, LED collars, and leads to ensure both of you stay safe.

10. Keep a Watchful Eye: Lastly, just be mindful of your dog's behavior. If they seem anxious or uncomfortable, give them extra love and attention. Sometimes a cozy blanket and cuddles can work wonders.

Halloween can be a blast for both you and your dog when you take these precautions. Let's make it a safe and happy Halloween for all our furry friends. 🐾🎃👻

The 🔑 to sorting out any behaviour issue is building an understanding as to why these behaviours are happening in the first place and the emotions behind them 🫶🏼

Having such a dedicated owner who really wants to understand their dog and go above and beyond to help them really really makes all the difference 🥰

In this case, it massively shows because the progress we have made in just 2 sessions is HUGE!

🐾🌟 In Paws of Gratitude to Tigger: The Ultimate Stooge Dog 🌟🐾

Dear Tigger,

Today, I want to take a moment to shower you with the appreciation and love you truly deserve (don't get used to it 😜😂). You are more than just a dog; you are our loyal companion, my partner in crime, and the unsung hero of our dog training sessions. 🐶❤️

Over the last couple of days alone you have helped an extremely nervous dog be happy and confident in an unknown dog's presence and taught a overexcitable puppy how to greet dogs politely 🥰

When we first embarked on this journey together, little did I know just how indispensable you would become as one of my stooge dogs. Your unwavering patience, boundless enthusiasm, and incredible adaptability have made you the perfect co-star in our training sessions. 🌟

You have willingly donned various roles – the calm and composed dog, the playful pup, the perfect influence – without ever complaining. Your ability to mimic various canine behaviors has not only honed my training skills but also helped countless other dogs become better versions of themselves. 🐕👏

So, here's to you, our boy! 🥂 Thank you for being the best stooge dog a dog trainer could ask for 🐾❤️

It's always a good day when Ava comes for training 🥰

She has been struggling with some on lead frustration which manifested itself as some lunging and barking. Basically, she believed everyone was her best friend and she NEEDED to say hi! 🙈

Now, I don't know anyone who wouldn't want to say hi to her 😛 but we needed to teach her that shouting is not the best way to get attention, neither do you need to say hi to absolutely everyone.

After a couple of sessions, Ava is making HUGE progress! I'm so proud of her and her mum, these two will go on to achieve great things I'm sure! 🐾

I want to express my deepest gratitude to all of you for entrusting me with the privilege of being a part of your puppy's journey. It's been an honor to watch these puppies grow alongside you, forging bonds that will last a lifetime. 🙏❤️

🐕✨ Celebrating Doug's Incredible Training Progress and Why it's Vital to Involve Children in Puppy Training! 🧒📚

We've got a heartwarming story to share today about our furry friend, Doug, and the fantastic strides he's made in his training journey. 🐾💪

I'm sure you will all remember Doug the Chug 🐶 From the first day I met him, I knew he had loads of potential. But what's truly remarkable is the progress he's made through consistent training and the involvement of his human sister.

His obedience, manners, and the bond he's developed with his family are a testament to the power of positive reinforcement and patience. 📈👏

But why is it so crucial to involve children in their puppy's training journey? 🤔 Here's why:

🐾 Responsibility: Teaching children to care for and train a dog instills a sense of responsibility from a young age. They learn that taking care of a pet involves commitment and consistency.

🐾 Empathy: It fosters empathy as kids understand a dog's needs, feelings, and the importance of gentle handling.

🐾 Bond Building: The bond formed between a child and their dog is incredibly special. It's a friendship built on trust, love, and shared experiences.

🐾 Life Skills: Training a dog involves problem-solving, patience, and communication – skills that benefit kids throughout their lives.

🐾 Safety: It ensures safety for both the child and the dog. The child and the dog learn how to interact with each other correctly so that their relationship is one built on trust and mutual respect. Not like those videos we see where the children are just climbing all over a clearly uncomfortable dog, we've all seen them!

So, let's give a round of applause to Doug and his family for their hard work and progress, and let's encourage all parents out there to involve their children in their puppy's training. It's a journey of growth and learning for both the child and the dog, and it's a step towards raising responsible, empathetic, and caring individuals. 🧒🐕❤️

Share your own stories of kids and dogs in the comments below, and let's celebrate these heartwarming connections! 👇📖🐶

🐾🎓 Celebrating Laure and Nym: A Journey of Dedication in Dog Training! 🎓🐶

Today we're excited to shine a spotlight on a remarkable duo who have embarked on an incredible journey of dedication and teamwork. Meet Laure and Nym! 🌟🐕

Laure is so dedicated to Nym and her training, every single week she goes away and absolutely smashes out her homework 📚🐾 Her dedication to training is nothing short of inspiring to me.

When I first met this pair, Nym was disengaged and found any form of training super stressful. She would spend alot of her time chasing and stalking birds, doing anything but wanting to work. Now, when she arrives at our field she's super excited to learn and we no longer have any disengagement at all! Laure originally contacted me to help Nym cope in in a Flyball environment as she was intent on chasing and stalking the other dogs, now she's out there winning rosettes in Flyball 🥳

Their journey reflects the incredible bond that forms between a human and their four-legged companion when they work together toward a common goal. 🤝🐾

📸 Patience, love, and persistence shine through every step of the way. It's a testament to their unwavering commitment to each other and their shared passion. 📷🐶❤️
