With children and pets spending more time together over the summer holidays, it's super important to watch dogs closely and listen to their body language ⚠️

Dogs' stress signals often get misunderstood or missed, with some owners not realising their dog is unhappy until they growl, snap or even bite.

The canine ladder of communication is a useful guide, showing the different signals dogs show through their body language to communicate. As a dog gets more upset, their body language may change according to the steps on the ladder 🚦

It’s important to note that all dogs are different - not every dog will show every behaviour on the ladder and might not follow the same order.

Keep safe in the heat!!

Some of our top tips to keeping your pets cool in hot weather:

- don’t take your dog out for walks in the heat of the day. Better to be safe than sorry! Plan walks for either early in the morning or late in the evening to avoid risking your dogs health in the heat of the day ☀️

- prepare cooling enrichment toys to keep your pet entertained and cool - lick mats, paddling pools, etc. we have lots of enrichment toys that double up perfectly as cooling toys for the summer (look out for our next post!) 😎

- get organised and book in regular grooms to maintain your pet’s coat! ✂️

A reminder for all cat owners! 🐱

From 10 June 2024 cats over 20 weeks old must be and registered on a compliant database 📆

By microchipping their cats, owners can increase the likelihood that they will be reunited with their beloved pet in the event that they go missing.

❌ RAPESEED! ❌

It’s that time of year again where farmers fields have blossomed into pretty yellow flowers, these plants are called rapeseed. Although it may be tempting to place your dog in the midst to take a scenic photo, please avoid this at all costs!

Rapeseed is extremely poisonous for dogs, especially in highly sensitive canines.

Rapeseed is listed by Dogs Trust as toxic to our dogs if ingested and can cause symptoms such as:

❌Haemolytic Anaemia
❌ Blindness
❌ Damaged Nervous System
❌ Digestive Disorders
❌ Breathing Problems

Even walking through these fields should be avoided! In June 2019, a dog was reported to be suffering from severe open wounds after running through a crop of rapeseed.

Please seek immediate veterinary attention if your dog shows any signs of rapeseed poisoning!

I have been following for a while and always donate what I can, when I can. But their post yesterday really broke my heart.

Please continue to read - if everyone scrolled past things that made them feel sad or uncomfortable, nothing will ever change and these dogs wouldn’t be safe.

19 dogs were due to be put to sleep at a public shelter in Romania. They had 2-7 days to be saved.

My heart is so happy that ALL 19 dogs were saved !!
A community of people came together and sponsored each dog to get them out of there and safe. Each dog has a sponsor/sponsors who have set up direct debits to help cover the costs for that dog until they are adopted. ♥️

They all now have a chance of finding their forever home and are safe now, thank god !!

This little baby is the dog I have sponsored - Dog O, now named Flora 🌸 (or Juniper, depending on gender!).

I’m so happy these dogs are safe and all received sponsors in time. I can’t bear the thought of what could’ve happened otherwise.

But there is still so much more that can be done, and unfortunately it doesn’t just stop with these 19 dogs. More dogs can be saved if they have sponsors too.

As a community of dog owners & dog lovers, I’m hoping you can help too! Even if it’s just a share to reach others who may want to help. But if you are able to, and you would like to, please consider making a donation or setting up a direct debit to sponsor a dog.

It will literally save their life. An innocent and healthy dog that has their whole life ahead of them and deserves every chance of finding their loving and forever home.

It's our Christmas Market tomorrow and we hope to see you lots of you at our Centre between 3pm and 8pm to kick start your festive period, help you get out of the blocks with your shopping and fill your tummies with yummy goodies!

There will be cakes, biscuits and every imaginable sweet treat in between at our cafe and make sure you save some room for dinner courtesy of The Pitstop Trailer who will provide delicious burgers, hotdogs, mac n cheese, nachos and other mouth watering delights 🍔

We are in the midst of an animal crisis and we cannot stress enough the importance of neutering cats. Rescues at the moment are at breaking point with the number of cats and kittens in care. While we are here to help animals in need, we need everyone to do their bit to stop breeding. Neutering is essential!

Currently, in care we have over 30 kittens as well as so many adult cats. We have lots of hungry kitties and our food supplies are running very low.

What an incredible little dog! 🤩

I’m also so amazing by what dogs can do / sniff out and it’s great to hear of the incredible work PD Rosie has been doing lately!

Have you heard about Yellow Dogs? 🟡💛🟡

When out on a dog walk at Harrold Country Park Cafe last week - we came across this pamphlet from Yellow Dog UK nicely visible in the dog friendly cafe.

We were really pleased to see such awareness being raised for all the different reasons you could need to give a dog space and the support they offer with their items to help achieve this.

Were you already aware of the Yellow Dog campaign? Have you had any experience of it yourself?

Let's get this shared to help others give more understanding to those dogs who may be in something yellow and for any dogs out there who may want to know about these options available to them 🟡💛🟡
