Fun day out at Mendip Plains in the BE90 yesterday. He gave me what I thought was one of the best tests he’s ever done, just a shame our mark didn’t reflect that. But in a harsh marking section I was pleased to come away with 35. I let my nerves get to me in the SJ so had an unlucky pole. Then followed by a clear XC with just a few time to add. The ground was awfully wet and muddy but he dug so deep for me and really tried his best.
Onwards and upwards to Oxstalls in a few weeks time💪🏼🚀

Couldn’t be happier with Crackers test today. The improvement this little pony has made on the flat is unbelievable. This time last year we were LUCKY to get a sub 40 mark. We’ve worked so hard and now having the correct facilities at home to help us improve has really made all the difference. Super harsh marking section today so to come away with a 35, I was chuffed to bits! Definitely still some polishing up to do but what an improvement to last year!
Full event report to come but I couldn’t not share this test!!😌

Fab start to the season yesterday at Larkhill in the BE90! Even in the horrible wind cracks was on top form all day doing a sweet test for 32 (a MASSIVE improvement from last season!) then jumping a lovely, steady DC to finish just inside the top 10!! Couldn’t fault him all day🌟
Massive thank you to Larkhill Eventing for finally getting the show on the road. The ground was almost perfect considering the rain we’ve had👏🏼

So pleased with cracks today in the 90 Combined Training at Mendip Plains. The hard work with his dressage payed off and we managed a PB of 30.7! Rolled a pole SJ which was a shame, but still a much improved round from last time 😌 Overall a great final tune up before Oxstalls next weekend🤞🏼🚀

Another fab day yesterday at King Sedgemoor with Roo picking up her final score, qualifying her for Hartpury in August👏🏼 After a bit of a hectic start, it definitely wasn’t our best test. An upset in the first canter dropped our mark but we still came away with the WIN!🥇🐴

Roo was a superstar today doing her first test back since Hartpury in August and since her illness. Picture not from today, but she did a lovely test despite us both being ring rusty, and managed to bring home a win on 69% - a fab start to 2024🐴🥇

Think it’s about time for a long overdue write up from the last few weeks as it’s all been very quiet with the ponies…
To be honest, it’s been a tough few months!
Although we’ve all been enjoying a quieter time after a bit of a hectic summer, not everything has been smooth sailing. Cracker had his long, planned holiday after regionals at the end of September which he’s thoroughly enjoyed. He’s resembling a chunky little pig at the moment but we’ll get that summer bod back soon 🐷💪🏼
Roo hasn’t actually competed since Hartpury in August. She unfortunately became quite poorly soon after but with the help and guidance from the fabulous team of vets at The Stables Equine Practice and lots of time off she has made a slow but positive recovery!
In all fairness, it’s been hard since the nights have come in and winters arrived. It’s hard to keep motivation when it feels like everything’s slowing down and ‘going wrong’. I’ve been trying to stay positive and remember that it’s ok for us to have a quieter winter and to pick them back up when I feel ready, without the pressure. They’re being ticked over once or twice a week hacking out with the occasional school/lunge when I feel up to it.
To top it off we haven’t had a working lorry for a while. I find having things to look forward to such as lessons and competitions gives me that motivation to ride and get on with it regardless of the weather or time of day. Fingers crossed that in the next few weeks we will have it sorted and I can start getting them both out to some lessons before starting competing again in the new year.
Anyway, rant over! I think we can all agree that winter with horses is just s**t!! Hopefully we’ll be back to having some normality and fun with the ponies soon with a boost of motivation!🙈

Quick school at Mendip Plains for both the ponies this morning. I’m working hard on the flat with Cracker (much to his disgust!!) as it’s always been a massive weakness for him, but he is slowly but surely making some progress. Roo was also a very good girl going over a few things ready for BD this Sunday with Adele🌟🌟
Despite rider error and taking it steady, I am really pleased with our XC round yesterday🌟 He was still strong and keen but compared to last year, he was so much more rideable which I’m so happy about. I just love this little pocket rocket!!!🚀
Really pleased with Cracker today running through our test for Saturdays event. He’s feeling so ready to get out there!! 🤩💪🏼
