What should you expect your hay to look like when it's finished being steamed in a Simply Steam?

A lot of people expect their hay to feel wet and are alarmed when the middle part of their hay still feels dry. While some of your steamed hay may feel damp, this is only due to the moisture inside the box, and not actually the important part. Our design means that all the hay (even the middle) is treated by the hot steam, not the wetness, and this is what kills the mould spores and bacteria! Sometimes hay can look a little less green once its come out the steamer, but in general your hay will be softer, less coarse, less dusty and smell delicious!

⚠️ Take care when you first remove it from the steamer, it might be hot!

Simply Steam works fantastically with both loose hay, or hay already in hay nets - either way, even the centre of the hay will be treated by steam. Why does my horse cough?

There are 3 main categories of equine coughs - environmental, bacterial and viral.

Environmental coughs are caused by exposure to things like bacteria in forage, dusty bedding, mouldy hay, poor ventilation in the stable, pollen allergies or bad hygiene.

Your horse's hay can be a respiratory irritant, and by steaming it and removing the dust, mould, bacteria and fungi present in it, you are improving the quality of your hay which reduces your horse's exposure to these harmful spores in their environment and supports their respiratory health ✅

Other things you can do during this warm spell to support your horse's hydration:
💙 Always ensure there is clean fresh water available
💙 Consider using mashes or adding additional water to hard feed
💙 Supplement your horse's diet with an electrolyte
