'Every mistake is a lesson for success' 📶

When training your dog, it is certain that somewhere along their training journey they will make mistakes

It is important to remember that making mistakes is part of any learning process, including training your dog 🐶

Mistakes provide valuable learning opportunities. When your dog makes a mistake, it create an opportunity for them to overcome a challenge by using their brain to adapt to the situation and try new things 🧠💭

This can be a huge confidence booster to your dog, and build up their resilience towards difficult situations 💪🏻

'Celebrate the little successes' 🎉

When we train our dogs, it's easy to get wrapped up in wanting to see quick progression.

Every dog is different and learns at their own pace. It is important that we make sure we celebrate the small things and recognise that every little success is a step closer to your goal. 🏅

Remember, it's all about the journey, not how long it takes to get there.

🎃 With only a few days left until Halloween it's important we all know the best ways to keep our fur babies safe. 🎃

Halloween can be a stressful time for some dogs, especially door reactive dogs.

It is important to understand that your dog may be feeling fearful about so many strangers approaching your home. As owners we can take steps to help them relax, feel, and be safe.

'When things get tough, don't give up'

Training your dog is not always easy and straight forward. It takes time, practice and patience.

Mistakes and taking steps back are common in training, and you may feel like you want to give up at times. However mistakes are a part of the learning process.

Remember not every dog or human are the same. We all learn at our own pace and reach our goals in our own time.

Don't give up, you can do it! 💪

Marking and rewarding is the foundation of dog training. We mark and reward our dogs to promote the repetition of a desirable behaviour.

Markers are used to tell our dog we like the behaviour they have just performed. When we mark our dogs, the correct timing is super important. Marking too early or late may mark the wrong behaviour, resulting in your dog practicing the wrong behaviour.

Markers can be given in the form of verbal words, sounds, gestures. For example, saying 'Yes', using a clicker or gesturing a thumbs up. 👍

After marking our dog, we use rewards to reinforce the behaviour. This increases the likelihood of behaviours being rehearsed and strengthened to form a solid behaviour.

By giving our rewards within 3 seconds, we can avoid confusion within our dogs.. Delaying the reward can lead to our dogs to becoming confused or bored with their training.

Do you agree?🤔

Reactivity can be defined as a dogs' responses to different stimuli. And a dog can respond in MANY ways to a stimulus. They may Bark, Growl, Lunge and Jump, but this does not mean they are aggressive.

A reactive dog may be fearful, anxious or overly-aroused towards a stimuli or a situation. This can cause a dog to respond in a way that warns others that they are not happy or willing to engage. Or to respond in frustration of not being able to go towards a stimulus.

If you think your dog may be reactive, do not force them to engage with uncomfortable stimuli/situations.

Reactive dogs are good dogs too.
