❄️Wishing you all a happy new year/new decade with health, happiness and more time close to nature and the ones you love! 🌲🏔Some big highlights from the last decade for me are that I became a biologist🔬, a veterinarian🩺💉, I started working as a zoo/wildlife vet🦓🐘🦚🐒, I made some amazing friends and colleagues (from all around the world) and I got to work on over 200 different species including elephants (finally) ❤️! Here’s to the next decade and hoping it’s filled with family, friends, animals and travels 😘

Ps finally managed to get the whole family together in one photo before the cubs ran off in opposite directions. I could watch them all day❤️🐅.

Social media holds so much power in today’s world. Vast amounts of information and misinformation are thrown our way constantly. It’s hard to know what’s real and what’s not. The only certain thing is that we are constantly influenced by what we are continuously CHOOSING to be exposed to even if we don’t realize it. My life revolves around animals. 🐻🐸🐒🦁🐧🦉🦇🐢🦓🦏🐘🐅🦌🐇🦜When I’m not working as a vet with them, I’m often reading about them or photographing them and observing them. I think they are the most beautiful part of our world. My news feed is largely made up of animal photography accounts, conservationists, veterinarians, animal care staff and people who inspire me one way or another. This means that when I scroll down my newsfeed I am choosing to be “bombarded” with things that will motivate me, inspire me and push me to be better. Follow accounts who will make you care about something important in the world, there are so many out there.
As Steve Irwin said “if we can teach people about wildlife they will be touched. Share my wildlife with me. Because humans want to save things that they love” ❤️

Since today is I think it’s only fitting to remind anyone reading this that YOU CAN help wildlife and you are NOT too small to make a difference! As we get closer to the holidays and in the spirit of giving there are many amazing organizations you can donate something to. It doesn’t have to be money, it can also be your time. Start small, for example, call your local wildlife sanctuary/hospital and ask them what they need😊Sometimes items such as old blankets/ towels/sheets/clothes can go a long way and places like this RELY on your donations!

🦇🦇keeping small patients warm during anaesthesia is vital! Under the towel we always have a heat source and we try to keep the procedure as short as possible!

🍂🍁🌲☀️💧Beautiful place to take a small break from being a vet. I find it really hard to switch off, even on my off days if I stay at home. It’s so easy to just spend the day in your pjs, on a couch, with the tv on in the background, reading and making notes and thinking about your cases... this isn’t really a break for me! Nature always “forces” you to switch off. It’s my happy place, always has been, always will be❤️

🐅🐅Love working as part of a team ! So many people with different tasks working towards the same goal. 🐅🐅This photo was taken 2 weeks ago when we gave our male Sumatran tiger a full check up which included xrays/ultrasound/bloods. With possibly less than 400 of these animals left in the wild it was a real privilege to work on this big boy here in Attica Zoo. Team lead by supervets Dr Semjonov & Dr Raath 💪🏼 thanks to all the vets and keepers for their dedication and help.
