I'm seeing a growing trend in training methods online that rely on harsh techniques, Choke, prong and obedience slip leads (much thinner than a normal slip lead) to get results, sometimes within minutes.
Using these teaches through fear anod nothing else. You'll get the result as your dog will not want to be in pain.
Learning together with any animal should be a fun experience for everyone and not one where pain compliance is used.
I, like others only use a reward based system that will also help strengthen the bond you already have with your dog

A picture paints a thousand words!
Knowing and understanding your dogs body language is one of the hardest things to do as an owner.
2 pictures taken a split second apart. One where it looks as though all hell has broken loose, the other a moment later, "I wonder what's in the hole, shall we check it out?".

I'm often told by some owners that they don't like to let their dogs sniff too much but did you know...........
The "scent centre" in a dogs brain, on average, has 300 million scent receptors so depending on breed their sense of smell is 10,000 to 100,000 times stronger than ours.
They can detect a teaspoon of sugar in an Olympic sized swimming pool.
When resting they'll breathe at about 15 breathes per minute. This can shoot up to between 140 to 200 breathes per minute with high intensity sniffing.
Every time you open the front door there will be something new for them to "read"

In short LET YOUR DOG SNIFF!!!!!!!!

You'll never get 100% recall with a working dog but you can get extremely close to it.

Apologies for not posting for a while. Life and work seems to always get in the way!

Does your dog sit on the front seat of your car when going out and about?
Don't forget to make sure that they are wearing a suitable harness correctly attached to the seatbelt anchor. Also put the seat as far back as possible and turn the passenger airbag off.

Have you been thinking of sending your dog away to be trained as it may be too much for you?
Although this may seem convenient the bond when training needs to between you and your dog. Residential training won't give the required bond between owners and their dog.

Are you not able to get out at a time of day when it's cooler?
There are fun ways to occupy your dogs brain in the heat. Working your dogs nose with simple sniffing/search games in the cool of the house will do this.

It would seem as though summer has decided to stay a little longer and the heat will be causing problems for you pooch.
Unless you can get out early in the morning or late in the day it'll be better if you let them chill out at home in the shade. Missing a few days of walking won't kill them but being out in the heat of the sun could.
