One beautiful Cairn lady 🥰

Cairn Terrier colour changes is a regular topic in my household. Pup owners, past and present regularly marvel at the difference in their dogs over the years. People who are new to the breed often disbelieve me or think I'm exaggerating when I call them chameleons. Hopefully this collage shows that I am not 🙂

This is the same dog over four years. No tricks, no filters, no clipping (that increases the chances of colour and coat texture changes). Normally, brindles are the most likely to change, but this beautiful lady had no brindle whatsoever until she was about 10 months old - and even then it was minimal. Now, not so much 😂

An experienced breeder can predict a pups' initial changes (puppy guard hairs often mislead owner into thinking a pup is darker than it is), but no good breeder will ever guarantee adult colour. Some might have a fair idea of future changes, however, simply looking at the colour of the parents or the pup is not enough.

It is fascinating to watch - and just another part of Cairn independence, cheek, and charm. But with a Cairn, you must love the breed, not the colour, because with every coat change, you might get a new one! 🥰

'Wederdena's Terriers' - We are council licenced/ vet inspected breeders and are passionate about breeding and rearing, happy, healthy puppies from happy, healthy dogs who are all much loved members of the family. I am also a trained microchip implanter and all our puppies are microchipped and vetted before they go to new homes. Visitors are always welcome but please call to make an appointment first.
