'oh you are a dog trainer, your dog must be so well behaved' hmm- 'shes complicated', but shes managed. Shes got a list of trauma issues that we deal with day to day. But she's not the same dog. She's come on leaps and bounds and I am so proud of her.
She was very well behaved when just relaxed at home, she slept in her spots, super clean inside, rarely barked, wouldn't dream of running off if the doors open etc.
Since the move, she's very alert, she's constantly following us around, she's not settled yet due to works going on both in the house and in the garden, she's acting differently with her mealtimes, not straight to her bowl like she normally would, she is back to looking around and not eating it in one go, maybe 3 comings and goings.
When we first got her she used to take a small amount and run away and eat it. It took 5 months for her to eat it in full and not take it away.
She has also been around the front door and got out!. She didn't run off. But she didn't come straight back in like she always has every single time in the past 3 years at our previous house, she took a little totter down the road and I had to get the lead and go and get her, she then wandered back like nothing had happened. She's been more vocal than ever before, she's never been a barker, but some of the new sounds in the first week made her nervous. But she's settling more as we are approaching week 3 with her barking.
So it's back to managing her needs, training her in her new routine, helping to settle her and some open doorways training that I wasn't expecting to have to 'teach' her again.
Shes complex. But she's my girl and I will work with the dog infront of me and do what they need me to do for them...
Maggie was extremely anxious and on high alert looking in all directions when she was out walking, she becomes reactive, whining, barking and lunging at dogs, birds....and the random turkey we came across 🙈 but her Mum is doing an amazing job staying calm and teaching Maggie how to redirect her focus and stay much calmer. Even after a short time she is doing so well and yesterday left her home in a calm way with her resident dog brother and buddy Max. She is a full on cuddler and has the sweetest nature. 🐕🐾❤️
