Dried food/kibble feeding (even when the animal is not overweight), obesity and lack of exercise. Authors concluded:
"Dry food is commonly fed to cats worldwide. The association found between dry food and an increased risk of diabetes in cats assessed as normal weight by owners warrants further attention."

- This half makes it looks and taste chicken ish. Chicken by-products as pet MD explains are:
"clean non-rendered "parts", other than meat, derived from slaughtered mammals. It includes, but is not limited to lungs, spleen, kidneys, brain, blood, bone, fatty tissue and stomachs and intestines freed of their contents. This is a cheap way for pet food companies to keep the protein levels "high" (although not high quality) while keeping food production costs low."
So we've now got a meaty type substance, yet Gluten, starch, colours and guar gum don't offer the nutrition meat does - which means we have to start adding synthetic vitamin supplements back in. This brings us to the other half of their ingredient list:
POTASSIUM CHLORIDE, MAGNESIUM SULFATE, TAURINE, CHOLINE CHLORIDE, DL-METHIONINE, VITAMIN E SUPPLEMENT, ZINC SULFATE, FERROUS SULFATE, THIAMINE MONONITRATE (VITAMIN B1), COPPER SULFATE, MANGANESE SULFATE, PYRIDOXINE HYDROCHLORIDE (VITAMIN B6), POTASSIUM IODIDE, VITAMIN D3 SUPPLEMENT, FOLIC ACID, MENADIONE SODIUM BISULFITE COMPLEX (SOURCE OF VITAMIN K ACTIVITY).

COMING SOON: Scrumptious hand-felted cat mats. These particular beauties are mainly Merino, with some rich Perendale mixed in. Cats are drawn to raw wool due to the lanolin content (which apparently smells like mum!) - but some products are synthetic felt or are thin, uncomfortable and unable to stand up to cat claws! In contrast there's so much pure wool crammed into ours, you might want to sink into it yourself ;)
