Puppy socialisation means gradually introducing your puppy all the different things in life that they need to get used to. Always work at their pace, and the earlier you start, the better.

Willow is a sweet, gentle dog who is great with cats, children, other dogs, and people. Despite her awful life so far, she’s a wonderful and calm soul who adores cuddles, belly rubs, and playing fetch but is equally content to curl up and relax by your side.

While she’s okay being left alone, Willow thrives in the company of people and enjoys being a lap dog. Her perfect home would be with someone who works from home or is retired, providing her with a relaxed atmosphere and plenty of love and attention.

In a tradition that started at the end of World War One, we wear a red poppy in remembrance of all the men and women who gave their lives in service to their country. We wear a purple poppy to remember all the animals who did the same. On the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month, we will remember them.

Bodhi is available for adoption!

Bodhi is a goofy, stunning boy who really wants to please and be everybody’s friend. His favourite things in the world are people, dogs and playing. He has beautifully soft fur and huge paws so he looks like a baby bear!

He’s a typical crazy spaniel puppy who is full of life, energy and curiosity but underneath it all he has such a gentle nature, and he is going to make someone a super companion.

He's also happy to do anything for a treat and a bit of praise.

I am very proud to announce that I am a volunteer trainer for the Spaniel Rescue Foundation - SRF Spaniels are smashing dogs, super bright, friendly and full of beans. At SRF we try to avoid rehoming and we support owners who may be struggling with their dogs. And if rehoming is necessary, we will find the best possible new owner for the dog. Expect more updates from me about this amazing charity in the future. And here’s a picture of two of my favourite spaniels, for algorithm tax.

"They're just playing" - well, maybe so, but not all play is happy play for both/all dogs concerned, and there are times when you should intervene. Leaving dogs to sort it out themselves means that they will, and you might not like how that goes.

Play is often misread. Advocate when you need too.

It's going to be hot this week, so I've made some popsicles for the pups to help them keep cool. They're dead easy, if you want to try them yourself.

Cucumber and strawberry - take one small cucumber (or half a large one) and blend or mash it with a spoonful or two of natural yoghurt. Chop a strawberry into small pieces and mix it into the cucumber puree. Pour into lolly moulds or ice cube trays and freeze.

Peanut butter and banana - chop up one ripe banana and blend or mash it up with a spoonful or two of doggie peanut butter (any nut butter will do, so long as it doesn't have xylitol in it.) Mix in a bit of natural yoghurt. Pour into lolly moulds or ice cube trays and freeze.

I once saw a greyhound in Hyde Park carrying a dead squirrel in its mouth. Tourists were horrified, but he was just doing what he had been bred to do. Hunting to eat is a part of canine DNA, but it's not ideal behaviour for family pets in the modern world. If your dog is a hunter, there are things you can do to make sure s/he doesn't get too carried away. Train a rock solid recall, and carry a quality tuggy as well as treats, and if you spot them sliding into hunting mode, make sure you intervene before they get to stage 4 - because once they start running, you don't have a chance of catching them!
