Yesterday, we received the devastating news that Fred Marden from Eagle Radio and more latterly Radio Biscuit died in the early hours of yesterday morning. It was completely unexpected.

Fred was a long term supporter of G4U and you may have met him at one of our Fun Days. He used to pop along if he was in the area and one year, he was our celebrity dog show judge. Fred was a huge animal lover but dogs held a very special place in his heart. I know his own two dogs, Jack and Bella will be distraught. He was an amazing foster daddy to Grace in Ireland until she was fit to travel to the UK, whereby he delivered her personally to me. Door to door service as is fitting for a princess. I am sure you will remember all the updates from her journey.

Rest easy Fred, you will be missed by so many. A new bright star is in the sky now ๐Ÿ’”

Drum roll! Sable and Harrys' DNa tests have arrived!

18/08/2020

4 years ago today, I arrived in the UK to live with mummy, Smiler, Evie, Ben and the cats. Isn't it rather apt that mummy received my DNA results this morning ๐Ÿ˜

03/08/2020

We know that we have been very quiet again lately but mummy has been busy welcoming more hounds into the G4U family.

But today we have some very exciting news for you. Mummy has decided that she needs to know who we are so me, Sable and Harry have all had our DNA taken for analysis. It was a weird experience having a tiny toothbrush rubbed around our cheeks but also very relaxing. Sable dozed off while mummy was doing hers ๐Ÿ™„. Harry just laid there like the good boy he is and I gave mummy a bit of a hard time until I realised it actually felt quite nice!

I am a Princess and have to keep up my Princess standards ๐Ÿ˜. We will of course let you all know what is in our breeding when the results arrive in about 2 weeks time.

Lots of love

Grace (and Sable and Harry)

Apologies for not posting in absolute ages. Things have been strange lately as I'm sure you know! Anyway, we thought you would like to see our new "thing"! When the local radio station plays Phatts and Small, I just have to howl ๐Ÿ˜. And of course, my brothers and sisters join in. Mummy has complained to the radio station but they think it's hilarious ๐Ÿคฃ

Lots of love Sable (and Grace and Harry)

Harry here! The girls have finally let me get a word in! I've been living with mummy, Evie, Ben, Grace and Sable for 2.5 months now and I think it's fair to say I'm getting the hang of this being a pampered pet lark ๐Ÿ˜. I think I look really cool in my tartan collar and matching blue jumper. Oh and that's my mate Midnight on the sofa behind me.

Happy Sunday everyone! Lots of love Harry ๐Ÿ’œ๐Ÿ’œ๐Ÿ’œ

I can't believe it's 3 years since I wrote this and it stills means a lot to me. Since then, Sensational Sable and Handsome Harry have come to live with us too.

Well! Can you believe I have been in my forever home for four weeks today! Yes, it is a time of celebration but also a time of reflection.

My story started 3 months ago when I was found by the side of the road in the west of Ireland lost, alone, frightened, hungry and in pain. My back leg really hurt and I didnโ€™t know what to do. The nice lady who found me took me to the local vet who in turn contacted the lovely Christine at North West SPCA (Ballina). Christine assumed responsibility for me but she had a decision to make. The choices were: put to sleep (the cheapest option); amputate my damaged leg (second cheapest option) or refer me to a specialist to see if he could rebuild my leg (the most expensive and complicated option). To be honest, I wasnโ€™t keen on any of the options but Christine could see something special in me and decided to send me to the specialist. I was extremely relieved. A nice man called Fred came to collect me from the vet and looked after me until I went to see James the specialist the following day. Fred took a photo of me and sent it to his friend Debbie. She runs a greyhound rehoming organisation so knows about hounds. As soon as Debbie saw my photo, she just knew that when I was fit to travel, I had to go live with her, her 3 greyhounds and 8 cats.

The following day Fred took me the specialist vets in Galway. James looked at my x-rays and felt fairly confident he could fix me โ€“ but there was no guarantee. I had two operations โ€“ one to fix my broken hip and another to fix my lower leg. Fred then collected me a few days later and he then became my foster daddy, looking after me until I was fit to travel. He did have to go away for a couple of weeks so another lovely lady called Niamh looked after me until he got back. We then had the exciting process of gaining my pet passport to allow me to travel to the UK. Eight weeks after being found I was declared fit to travel and the rest, they say, is history.

But my reason for reflection today is this. Can you be like Christine, Debbie, Fred, Niamh and all the people who donated towards my vet bill and my travel costs to get me to my forever home? Can you look past the broken exterior shell; can you look into our eyes and see our soul; can you see the animal we want to be if given the chance? Wherever you are in the world there will be local rescues helping animals despite the daily struggle and financial challenges. Can you find it in yourself to give a home to a lost soul like me (dog or cat โ€“ 7 of the 8 cats I live with are also rescues)? I promise you that we ask for very little but in return we will give you lifelong devotion and love? Isnโ€™t that worth considering? Adopt a rescue today!

Lots of love
Grace

Look where we are going tomorrow! We are all very excited :)

On the 8th September we are having our 20th Anniversary Fun Day. We will be having a fun dog show with a very special judge. This is a sight-hound only event. Looking forward to seeing lots of you on the day.

We are all looking forward to this! Evie, Ben (the greyhounds) and Grace, Sable and Harry (the lurchers) will all be in attendance :)

Sable and I would like to introduce you to someone! Please meet Handsome Harry :). He arrived from Sable's rescue in Ireland yesterday. He was rescued from horrific circumstances and has waited two months to be able to travel to mummy's rescue, G4U. He travelled with 4 other hounds who have either gone to foster or forever homes.

He is starting to learn what living in a home is all about but thing that is really good - he loves our cats! Mummy says he is a foster dog but we all know what mummy is like with foster dogs ๐Ÿ™„๐Ÿ˜‚

Hope you get to meet Harry soon.

Lots of love Grace & Sable

18 August 2019 - that means that me, pink princess lurchit Grace, has been in my forever home for three whole years today

What's on my mind Facebook? I'll tell you what's on my mind! We currently have Sable's boyfriend Larry staying with us as his people are on their holibobs. They were both rescued at different times by Auntie Suzanne at AHI.

They kept me awake most of the night playing! Do they not understand that a pink princess such as myself needs her beauty sleep? ๐Ÿ™„

Can you believe it was 3 years ago today I was given the all clear by my surgeon James, to travel to the UK and to my forever home?

James, my surgeon, just called. He has looked at my x-rays......

DRUM ROLL

I AM GOING HOME!!!

He's happy. I am 97 per cent healed, and I am good to go to my forever home with my new Mummy Debbie.

I am going to post so many pictures on my overnight journey on Wednesday night. So excited.

The journey of a rescue dog involves so much. So, here I am this afternoon with my foster Daddy's Mum. Philomena has been amazing. Looking after me when Fred has been at work, and she puts my blanket over me.

86 year old human. 2 year old dog. How brilliant to share the planet.

Gorgeous Grace, Sensational Sable & Handsome Harry

Do you all remember this from 3 years ago? Me living with Frederick Jude Marden until I travelled to the UK and my new mummy?

I'm allowed to go for tiny walks now. Aren't I doing well :). Only just over 2 weeks until I can travel to my forever home in the UK. Did I mention I'm excited?!!

Look, look, look! Sable and I were at Pets at Home, Havant again today! We were there collecting a cheque for G4U from the Support Adoption scheme. This was the result of the Santa Paws fundraising during December.

All us dogs had a fantastic time raising all this money for homeless animals. I know mummy is extremely proud of everyone for doing so well

Our lovely charity greyhounds 4 U came in today to pick up their Santa Paws cheque for ยฃ3,195.

Once again would like to thank them all for their support through out the fundraiser, the team for all their hard work and really making a difference. Of course thanks to all of our lovely customers for all the dinners they donated โ™ก

Havant Pets At Home & The Groom Room

Can you believe how many dinners we managed to get for homeless animals? Sable and I are very proud to have been a small part of this

๐ŸŽ‰ After 4 weeks of fundraising with Greyhounds 4 U. We can now reveal we raised a total of 12,780 dinners in our Santa Paws appeal. That's incredible! and all down to you, the customers. ๐ŸŽ‰

25/12/2018

Sable and I would like to wish you all a Merry Christmas! This is Sable's first Christmas in her forever home and she has no idea that she has a roast dinner to look forward to later. Lots of love Grace and Sable.

21/12/2018

Sable and I will be at Pets at Home, Havant again this weekend. Please come and say hi to us and help us to help other homeless animals.

Lots of love Grace and Sable

These past couple of weeks we have been working to help fundraise for Greyhounds 4 U as part of our Santa Paws appeal.

This weekend is the last chance to help out the appeal and try to reach our target. You, the customers, have been incredible so lets not stop now. Pop on down to the store this weekend to show your support.

Our big brother Smiler went to Rainbow Bridge today. We are both very sad as we loved him very much. Thank you for being the best big brother ever.

Me and my sister Sable rocking it in our Gingerbread Man Christmas jumpers at the Pets at Home Santa Paws event yesterday. I think Sable did really well considering this was her first G4U event. Don't tell her, but she did much better than I did at my first event.

We ๐Ÿ’œ each other ๐Ÿ˜

24/11/2018

Some of the more observant amongst you may have noticed a change to my page today. Mummy has asked that I tell you something! A month ago this weekend, Sable arrived from Ireland as a foster hound.

Initially Sable was having trouble settling into a home as she was used to who knows what before being rescued by AHAR. She is coming on in leaps and bounds now so mummy had decided that Sable will be staying! To be honest, those of you who know mummy, won't be surprised by this. Smiler, our older brother was a foster hound for many years before Auntie Charlotte made her sign the official adoption agreement!

Mummy doesn't give up easily thankfully and she is turning Sable into the most beautiful hound. She has her first G4U event next weekend - Santa Paws at Pets at Home. We are going to be raising money for homeless animals just like we were until our luck changed and those rescuers came along and changed our lives. I have a new sister
