Little Badger's Pet Care - cat & small animal home visits & boarding A full petcare service, offering loving care for your cats, guinea pigs and other small pets! I also offer guinea pig nail cutting.
(21)

Little Badger's Pet Care offers a service that is tailored to your pet's needs. This includes pet care visits in the clients home, where I can feed your cat/cats, or other small pets. Security at your home is paramount, and for this reason I do not drive a sign-written vehicle or wear a uniform, as this can draw attention to the fact you are away from home. I also provide guinea pig boarding in he

ated/air conditioned accommodation. In addition to these services I also offer boarding for guinea pigs who are receiving treatment from Simon or Kim Maddock at the Cat and Rabbit Care Clinic, who may need regular appointments, but live a long way away from the clinic. I also offer post operative care, for guinea pigs who have had surgery, ensuring supportive care (syringe feeding or medicating) for guinea pigs belonging to clients of the Cat and Rabbit Care Clinic, either on a daily/short term/long term basis. In addition to the pet care services that I provide, I have a very keen interest in feline behaviour and I hold the Advanced Diploma in Applied Animal Behaviour (Feline) Level 5, as well as the International Cat Care qualification, Advanced Feline Behaviour for Cat Professionals. I am now embarking on the Advanced Diploma in Applied Animal Behaviour Level 6. If you would like to discuss any of the services that I offer, please contact me for further information.

Just to remind everyone, from 10th June it becomes a legal requirement for your cats to be microchipped, from 20 weeks of age! This applies to ALL cats, regardless of whether they’re kept as indoor only cats. An indoor cat can escape and a microchip can greatly improve the chances of them being reunited with their family! 🐾

Only one month to go❗️ From 10 June 2024, cats in England will need to be microchipped and registered on a database by the time they’re 20 weeks old.

🧑‍⚕️ Be sure to contact your vet to book in an appointment.

Microchipping will help reunite you with your cat if they ever become lost. Even indoor-only cats should be microchipped because they are also at risk of becoming lost.

Owners could face a fine of up to £500 if they do not microchip their cat by the required deadline.

Could your cat be a potential blood donor?
14/04/2024

Could your cat be a potential blood donor?

Today! From 10am until 2pm, here at the Cat and Rabbit in Duston. Please come along if your cat fits the criteria below.

Could your cat be a life saver?
Is your cat;
- relaxed, friendly and healthy,
- 1-8 years of age,
- up to date with vaccines,
- minimum lean weight of 4kg,
- up to date with flea and worming treatment,
- lived in the UK their whole life,
- never received a blood transfusion?
Then yes, your cat could be a life saver! We are looking for cat owners that are happy to be added to our blood donor list, so that in the case we are to perform a blood transfusion, we are able to call upon you and your cat.
Why might we need to perform a blood transfusion?
There are many reasons why we might need to do this, but generally it is in emergency situations; if a cat is suffering from internal bleeding following a car accident or a condition whereby red blood cells are being destroyed by their own body.
What happens on the typing day?
You can attend anytime between 10am-2pm, you will be checked in, asked to fill in a consent form, your cat will receive a full health check by a vet, then we will take a small blood sample to run a typing test. At a later stage, we will then inform you of your cats blood type.
What's a typing test?
Cats have three types of blood, so we need to determine which type your cat is in order to know whether your cat will be suitable to give blood to our patient in need.
What do we do currently if we need blood for a transfusion?
We try and source a suitable cat that we are able to take donation from in order to transfuse, however this can be very time consuming and can take multiple cats as we have to type them.
Why are we looking to have our own register?
Sometimes, it can take a few hours for us to get the blood that we need for the transfusion, if we are able to call upon someone who is able to bring their cat in much sooner, then we are able to give the necessary treatment quicker.
In the event that my cat is needed for donation what will happen?
When you attend the typing day, we will ask what times of the day you are generally happy to be contacted, as this could be 24/7, 365 days a year.

Our cat blood typing day will be held here, at the Cat and Rabbit Clinic on April 14th from 10am -2pm 🐱🩸

The new Argylle film has been released in the UK and the cat depicted in this film is one with folded ears - a Scottish Fold 🎥😿

Although this cat is animated, sadly this means that there will likely be a rise in the number of Scottish Fold cats bred and purchased in the UK and other countries where this breed is available, but did you know these cats experience serious health issues?

If you think this breed of cat looks cute and are thinking about getting one to add to your family, please reconsider and bear in mind the following:

😿Scottish Fold cats have a genetic mutation that causes the cartilage in their ears to fold over, but that same genetic mutation affects the cartilage in the joints, causing a serious bone and cartilage disorder known as ‘osteochondrodysplasia’.

😿Osteochondroplasia causes severe and painful joint disease, which can impact the cat’s mobility. Several joints are affected in their limbs and tail, some of them completely fuse restricting normal movement and balance. The hindlimbs are usually most severely affected, their paws can be splayed and their tail stiff and rigid.

😿Due to their condition, Scottish Fold cats may not be able to perform normal cat behaviours, such as climbing, playing, grooming or accessing their litter tray easily. Affected cats can have a reduced quality of life due to this and chronic pain.

😿All Scottish Fold cats are affected by this gene - although there may be variations in the severity of their symptoms.

For more information about Scottish Fold cats and to see just how severely affected they are take a look at this International Cat Care webpage or this 2007 study - you can see how thickened their joints are on the x-rays 👇👇

Luna and her friend Rusty are staying with me while their owner is holiday. Luna also had surgery, yesterday, to remove a lump near her back leg.

Providing post operative care is a service that I offer, for long distance clients of The Cat and Rabbit Care Clinic. As you can see, Luna has recovered well and is enjoying her dinner!
