Only 3 days left to register for the next SCAS Webinar by Dr. Emily Kieson. Our Webinars are free to members and £6.13 for non-members. Recordings available.
In this webinar, Dr. Kieson will share research and video examples from free-living horse populations in Scotland and Mongolia, highlighting what these horses can teach us about social connection, choice, communication, and welfare. Drawing from preliminary findings and field observations, the webinar will explore how knowledge from free-living horse societies can inform the ways we manage, train, and interact with domestic horses.

Are you a student interested in undertaking a project related to the human-companion animal bond (includes equines!) or animal-assisted services? The Society for Companion Animals Studies (SCAS) is accepting applications for projects (12 months or less) to be undertaken by undergraduate or master’s students. Awards are between £500-1000 and open to students from universities anywhere in the world. A supervisor from your institution will need to co-sign, but their role is primarily to ensure funds are managed appropriately and need not incur extra demands on their time.

PhD students are not eligible for the Student Project award. However, they are encouraged to apply for a Pump-Priming Award, providing it is for a project that can be completed within a 12-month time frame. PhD students don’t need a supervisor to co-sign –¬ they only need to the host-organization to agree to accept and distribute the funds). However, listing a PhD supervisor as a co-investigator may strengthen the application.
