Random pic today. Sad news that one of our remaining Degu passed overnight. We have one left. 2024 has taken 5 pets from us so far. I know that they were all old, but even so, it’s the worst part of owning a pet. They are our family. My mind is empty. 😢🌈

Can’t believe how beautiful this new boy Winston is. ❤️ BSL is bull 💩! Thanks for sending him my way. Such a gentle soul. We have said before but we are insured to walk and take care of XLs, with some added paperwork and precautions. It’s so heartbreaking how many bull breeds have been kicked off of walk lists because of the restrictions on XLs. We’ve had bully adjacent breeds join us because of this discrimination. All dogs have a right to walks and a life. ❤️😭

There are 2 types of cat. 1. The demon puma, garden stalker, killer of prey, humongous chunkalunk stealth tiger, and 2. Shrimp boy, dying of starvation, pls gib food, can you spare me a drop of that tasty milk in your cereal, I am but skin and bone, ever withering cutie patootie. Yes I know milk isn’t great for cats, try telling this to Pixel, we don’t give him any. Pippin also harasses us for crisps, but there we are. Oh wait, are they actually human teenagers in cat form?

When I first started, I had no idea about the green gems around the city. Hot af days like today are when we crack out the shaded routes. This lot needed a human today, so a slow gentle plod in the shade with plenty of water. On lead, because most cases of heat exhaustion in this country are reportedly caused by exertion., no wrestling today!

It’s that time of year again where it’s hotter than the sun ☀️ we check the weather everyday, but this week is set to be a scorching one. Tomorrow is easily 27c. We were lucky enough today with the fog to get a walk in with our little group gang. Laura will be contacting everyone who has walks booked in this week to get the sitrep for who needs a visit. We’ll walk if it’s below 24c. We have a contingency plan for any pup that needs a human to come visit. Comfort and play breaks, or shaded low octane walks if it’s cool enough.

RANT Today I was walking a beautiful reactive dog, when someone came up from behind us, and started trying to pet the dog and cooing at the dog. The dog went into a panic and was visibly distressed. I had recoiled me and the dog into a wall and said “he’s not friendly please don’t” The person continued to try and touch the dog, at which point I was having to cradle the dog who was panicking and barking and snarling, quite rightly. The dog was wearing yellow with the word “Nervous” on his collar. Why do people think that it’s ok to pet a dog without either the human’s or dog’s consent? I’m still in absolute shock at how recklessly the person acted, putting himself and myself in danger of harm and more importantly endangering the dog. If the dog had bitten or injured him in anyway there is the potential that a dog can be seized and euthanised for safety reasons. This would never have got so bad in this case because the dog trusts me so well, but I’m absolutely gobsmacked that people can be so hecking stupid and thoughtless. Yellow means do not approach.

What people see when we’re outside is “scary!” He’s just a very scared nervous boy who had an abhorrent past but the absolute best most awesome pawrents now. He’s the softest gentlest gentleman who just has a lot to say when he’s anxious. I can’t believe the progress this little (huge) monster munch has made over the last three years! We just got caught in the deluge so time to dry off with some cuddles while I gush about how amazing he is. He has an amazing trainer .

These two beautiful Tuxedo-Twinies! One of the sisters is gravely ill so I’m on comfort support while their humans are away.

I have been in this game long enough to see the inevitable happen to a few of the beautiful animals I am honoured to care for. It’s the worst part of the job, because we at Green paws love all our extended fur family. We’ve even gained a few in our own family, because we couldn’t let pets go to shelters. I get so sad when they get ill and go to the next life. 😢

Thanks for everyone’s patience today. There are roadworks for the water infrastructure at Rottingdean/A259 junction. The water repairs accidentally caused a burst gas main apparently. 🙃

We’re going our best to accommodate everyone but all journeys are taking much longer. Took us 2 hours to get to anyone this morning. We will try to circumnavigate the blockages over the next couple of days but likely that everyone else in Saltdean and Peacehaven will do the same.

We’re prioritising the absolute need visits. Typically Wednesday is our busiest day! We will let anyone we can’t get to know in plenty of time. There’s always drama with Brighton and roadworks!!
