On Saturday and Sunday it was the turn of Phoenix to host. The venue is at a sports ground and so the working surface is super with rings well laid out as usual. Even the weather cooperated with sunshine that made bring with our dogs even better. The ground is surrounded by lovely woodland walks which are perfect for a steady stroll around after a busy day.
We had members both officiating and competing this time with Elaine Hopwood bravely taking on the judging role for both PreBeginners and Beginners on Saturday - what a stint.

Coming home with rosettes
Saturday
Prebeginners - 1st Steph Roll with Malcolm
Beginners - 6th Steph Roll with Malcolm

Massive congratulations to Steph who has now won out of PreBeginners as this is her 2nd win. Well done both of you

As the temperature is set to rise tomorrow, remember to keep your dog cool. Don’t exercise them in the hottest parts of the day, and watch out for signs of heatstroke.

The weekend also saw the Lune Valley Extravaganza - three more days of Obedience shows with a days of Rally competitions to have a go at too.

The on site food truck stays all week with a change of menu each day - such a bonus for everyone. The village of Milnthorpe is close by and also has some nice takeaways to choose from if you fancy something a bit different. For those with a sweet tooth the Cakery and Bakery in Milnthorpe comes highly recommended with tray bakes and brownies of all types to take away - super yummy with a cup of tea.

Lune Valley shares the same show ground as Wigton so good for show teams to be able share the workload and provide five days of competition. The weather was mixed during the weekend but generally the rain fell outside of the show time and Monday morning saw the best of the weather with most of the Danesford crew choosing to work early and have a restful afternoon.

Coming away with rosettes and ribbons this time:
A - 4th Elaine Hopwood with Bryn
ABC - 5th Jackie Laverty with Cara
Rally L3 - Qualifying score - Lesley Olbinson with Grace

A long journey for some of our smallest dogs this weekend as they travelled all the way down to Wi******er to compete. Thankfully they had brilliant weather and managed to get some lovely walks in around the show days - competing involves so much more enjoyment than what happens in the ring.

Lots of successes though and coming home with rosettes:
KC Special PreBeginners -2nd Chris Harrison with Teal
Obreedience - 1st Manchester Reunited

The sunsets on a fabulous few days at Westmorland County Showground where the Wigton team have held their two day midweek show.

The weather has been mixed but on the whole most of the rain fell either before or after the dogs needed to work. If we had to have rain that’s the best time so not to have to be covered in rustly waterproofs with soggy dogs refusing to sit on wet grass. The rings are well laid out with room to walk comfortably in between them and wait for your turn to strut your stuff.

The food truck, there every day, provides lots of choice with a different menu each day for lunch and tea - so no need to cook if you’re camping and just want to relax and chill - the fish and chips on Fridays come highly recommended. Tomorrow sees the start of the Lune Valley show at the same venue - so more food to try over the weekend 😂😂

Coming away happiest this time:
A - 3rd Elaine Hopwood with Bryn
Novice - 4th Val Lether with Meeko

Another absolutely fabulous canine first aid session session again tonight hosted by Jonte Thomson from . Everyone who attended learned so much and had a thoroughly enjoyable evening,

All the basics covered we then went on to chat about would be the most appropriate action to take in a range of emergency scenarios.
Everyone was offered the opportunity to have a go at finding a pulse and practice CPR on Rex the resuscitation dummy. We tried out our bandaging skills on our own limbs - thank goodness it wasn’t on a moving dog.

Thank Jonte for another brilliant and educational evening - here’s hoping we never have to use some of what we’ve learned but everyone left feeling much more prepared to do our best if it’s ever needed.

The show season is now in full swing especially for those who are able to camp with Newton Heath and Preston and Fylde coming together to give competitors four days of competition. With a midweek and weekend show to choose from we really are spoilt.

The venue at Littleborough is superb - with a lovely working surface for both humans and dogs and not too far to travel for those just going for the day. On show days the rings are well spaced with room to move easily between rings. There are stalls where you can buy more dog stuff that you don’t really need but just can’t resist - well who doesn’t love a new toy 😂

For those camping there’s usually cricket to watch, either a match or a practice game, just need to remember not to park your caravan too close to the edge of the out field 🙈. The club is open for refreshments most of the day and an ice cream van does the rounds too - what more could you ask for. The local pathways up and around the hills are great for walking with routes suitable for all abilities. There are plenty of places to explore with amazing views to admire, shade to walk in and streams to paddle in so both humans and dogs can keep cool and have a ‘splashy’ time.

Coming home happiest this time:-
Newton Heath Wednesday
B - 3rd Elaine Hopwood with Bryn
Preston and Fylde Saturday
Novice - 4th Nicky Dunhill with Zac
Preston and Fylde Sunday
Novice - 2nd Val Lether and Meeko

Today many of our club members went to the dog show at Richmond Villages Nantwich. There were the usual fun classes first - including Scruffiest Mutt - we had a fun morning and Meeko was crowned not only Scruffiest Mutt but Best in Show. Also coming first in their individual classes were Dexter and Michelle (Best Puppy) then Megan and Jodie (Best Rescue). Well done.

After the dog show, led by our very own Gwynneth, the team took the stage. The first demonstration included basic puppy obedience and a range of important doggy life skills (grooming, recall, settle, distance control etc). This was followed by the Manchester Terrier obreedience team - plus one cocker spaniel - giving a brief exhibition of what’s included in obreedience competition. A light hearted ‘obstacle race’ showed a few things our dogs can do and included helping their ‘handler’ to keep an egg on a spoon. Finally a freestyle musical extravaganza to Waterloo - what an amazing team.

Thank you to everyone who gave up their time to take part - Audra, Ann, Chris, Diane, Hilda, Jodie, Lesley, Michelle, Natalie, Paul, Sandra, Val D and Val L - you were all amazing. Special thanks to Gwyn for organising us all and acting as Ring Master

24/06/2024

Choices again this weekend for our members who compete in obedience with a two day show at Cheshire and a show on Sunday hosted by Chalfield. This was to be the team at Chalfields final event and it’s always sad to see any show committee decide to stop holding any competition . Chalfield was one of the few shows to continue with working ‘slots’ post covid and many competitors really enjoy the chance to commit to a time to work their dogs and this always ensured that judges were not kept waiting. Thank you to everyone who helped Chalfield to host shows over the years - we will miss this really friendly show team and super venue.

On Saturday at Cheshire the weather was more than kind - has summer really started - with silver sheets for cars, cool coats for dogs and floppy hats for humans being the order of the day. Club members were out in force not only competing but judging and stewarding - not an easy task in the warmer weather especially with their own dogs to consider. Flying the flag were Elaine Hopwood, Valerie Lether, Natalie Wakelin, and Gwyneth Williams who between them judged Pre-Beginners and Novice, and stewarded C and Novice - what a team. Special thanks must also go to Di Carole who looked after both Valerie’s and Gwynneth’s dogs all day, it really wouldn’t be possible for show officials to do their job properly without those who work hard behind the scenes.

The weather continued to be very warm on Sunday which can be tricky for both dogs and handlers to cope with. But with ‘all the gear and at least some idea’ everyone stayed safe and had an enjoyable day at both venues.

In the ribbons this weekend:-
Cheshire Sunday
Novice - 5th Diane Carole with Piper
Chalfield Sunday
Novice - 5th Val Dickens with Fynn
Pre Bees - 5th Chris Harrison with Teal

A busy weekend for our club member Alison Gresty who travelled up to Ayr in Scotland on Friday to prepare for the shows. Two clubs Prestwick and Knightswood share the same venue so there’s a couple of opportunities to compete over the weekend or a chance to ‘give a bit back’ on one day .
Judging on Saturday kept Alison occupied time but there were some lovely dogs working her B round. On Sunday it time to compete with her dogs and in her usual consistent style came home with a rosette for her efforts.

Last night saw dogs and their owners coming to try out dog parkour - everyone had a great time

In the parkour session we introduced our dogs to the world of jumping, climbing, balancing over, crawling under, and going around different obstacles in their everyday world. Dog Parkour can be done anywhere and is limited only by your imagination - what can you find on your walks to help engage your dog. Parkour can help with confidence and overcoming fears, and is a low impact but challenging activity for any canine.

Here are some photos and videos starring Angus, Bluey, Bruno, Maia, Mario, Paddington, Romeo, Sid, Theo and Zach showing how it’s done 💕💕

10/06/2024

This weekend saw shows being held very close to home (Lichfield) and much further away (StMarys - Tyne and Wear). With some dedicated individuals (or a little bit mad) travelling over the two days to both shows while some had a more restful time camping at Lichfield.

For those who entered at Lichfield the camping and show field had to be changed at last minute as the ground had been churned up by the large county show the previous weekend. The Lichfield members did a sterling job getting everything and everyone organised in a different area of the show ground. The parking attendants did a marvellous job of organising us all in trying circumstanes.

The rings were well laid out with lots of room for those with young dogs, not yet ready to compete, to train in a show atmosphere without disturbing anyone who was competing. One of our members, who shall remain nameless, had a lovely time watching just how poodles can and should work - and was also treated to poodle antics / tantrums in the ring so also saw poodles being ‘poodly’ which was a great relief. At the end of the day there were walks to suit everyone woodland paths through trees, wide open spaces to run and for those of us with two dodgy feet paths for us next to grass for the dogs - what more could you ask for.

For any sport to continue to thrive people need to ‘get involved’ and help out in any way they can - judging and stewarding aren’t for everyone but putting the sport first and giving up their chance to compete this weekend were Elaine Hopwood, Gwynneth Williams and Natalie Wakelin who respectively judged PreBeginners, and judged and stewarded Beginners on Sunday - well done and thank you.

Coming home with the rosettes this time:-
Lichfield Saturday
Championship B***h - 5th Alison Gresty with Dani
Open C - 1st Alison Gresty with Lexi
Lichfield Sunday
A - 4th Val Lether with Meeko
Special Pre Bees - 6th Chris Harrison with Teal
Obreedience - 5th Manchester Reunited

StMarys Sunday
Championship B***h - 4th Alison Gresty with Dani

Congratulations and well done everyone. The support for everyone from other club members around the show ground is absolutely fantastic - what a fab group of people we have 💕💕
