Yvonne and Vikki travelled to St Asaph over the weekend to a Hoopers competition, managing to
come home with two third places. The event was hosted by Barking Mad Dog Services, everyone had a fabulous time with some lovely courses for both dog and handlers to run.

Thursday saw the final session for our KC Puppy Class. Everyone has put 100% into the last 7 weeks and it shows. With two great classes showing what they can do. We have a lot of lovely dogs moving up to bronze this week so we wish them all the best.

Our Kennel Club Good Citizen Dog Scheme classes had their assessments this week. It’s always a good opportunity to see how much you and your dog have achieved over the few weeks of the course. Everyone who came has made so much progress so keep up the good work.
Going home happiest from Bronze assessment week was Peter with Barney - well done.
Adam with Quincy tried so hard but the inner teenager came out - we’ve all had to cope with that at times - it really is a phase.
Congratulations to everyone in the group from your trainers you’ve all come such a long way.

This weekend saw the first of the Solihull limited class shows held at Solihull Bees Rugby Club and the last of the full outside KC shows of the season with Sheffield GSD hosting their event at Newark Showground.

The Solihull show had two capped Novice classes and a special class with a mixture of exercises from both Novice and A. Competitors are able to enter both Novice classes so a great chance to progress (novice is such a sticking point for many of us 🙈). The fun class provides the opportunity to prepare dogs (and handlers) for the step up to A and even had prize money on offer as a bit of an incentive. The event is time limited by the afternoon rugby match and so everything is done and dusted for 1pm - perfect.

The Sheffield show team make a massive effort to include a variety of classes with Rally, Obeedience, All-Breedience, and have both Introductory and the ABC classes on offer. What a brilliant way to encourage new competitors into obedience and ensure that the lower classes have a large entry with over 40 entries in both PreBeginners and Beginners - well done team Sheffield.

Coming home happiest this weekend

Scent work or discerning odours is a dogs superpower. It is such a normal skill for our dogs, they live in a world of communication dominated by scents, but their ability to detect different odours sometimes seems magical to us as our sense of smell is not well developed.

Nosework Games was set up to provide a skill based nosework competition that would enable teams to compete and be tested on foundation scent skills. There are a number of game types which are used and it provides an easy format for organisers and they are allowed to use their own creativity to test skills rather than competitions becoming “set pieces”.

This weekend saw Therese with Percy compete at a Nosework Games competition.
Percy gained an overall first position after winning one game and coming second in two other games. Well done both of you
