Some of you will have met Ruben in real life. Some of you maybe follow his Instagram. Some might only know him from my posts. It doesn’t matter how you know Ruben, if you’ve known him at all, I can almost guarantee he’ll have made you smile at some point.

Having started up my business in 2019, Ruben was the first ever puppy I was asked to look after. I was terrified. Despite owning dogs all my life, and I don’t need to tell anyone of my love for black labs in particular, this was someone else’s puppy. Someone else’s absolute world. In my four years or so of walking him and looking after him, he taught me so much. He taught me patience, he taught me how to introduce dogs into a group when you have an entire male, how to work with both an intact male and female in the same group and, most importantly, he taught me never to leave a puppy unattended with a carpet, TV, radiator, clothes, router, etc.

Just over a year ago, Ruben and his Dad had moved away, to be closer to Edinburgh, but they would still visit us from time to time. It’s testament to how good a dog he was that both Peanut and Crumble loved him just as much as we did and, you need to be a special dog to get to lie on my own Dad’s lap! 😅

My heart absolutely broke when his human messaged me earlier in the week to tell me that Ruben had taken his final walk, after suffering a tragic accident.

Never has a dog/owner relationship been more perfect than with Ruben and his human, and all our thoughts are with Craig at this incredibly difficult time.

Fly high Rubes. You were the goodest boy. 💙
