Rubin has been with us for two weeks now. He mastered toilet training in a few days and we’ve not had any accidents since day 5.
He has been super friendly towards all dogs when out on walks and with others in and around the home, often wanting to go and say hello. He doesn’t react or retaliate when told off by other dogs. He is great with hoomans and craves contact and affection (not fussy who he gets cuddles with). Loves snuggling on the sofa.
He is a little underweight so has extra at mealtimes and we’ve been supplementing with a small meal at lunchtime.
He is a typical GWP needing daily exercise and some space to run. We have done some work with him on a long lead to let him run and he is learning to respond to recall. He is not food driven when outside so at the moment can’t be trained with treats but loves to chase and fetch a ball so this is his thing, he also responds well to affection and is eager to please.
He likes to look out of the window, checking for squirrels and foxes.
He is learning to settle and relax and we’ve not had any problems at nighttime, settling with the other two in the kitchen with ease and no complaining.
He is playful with his toys. He travels well in a car.
He can be a bit restless and will want to investigate thoroughly any noise.
He has been left with our other two dogs for up to 3 hours and has been absolutely fine.
I’ve said it so many times since he has been with us but Rubin is an absolute sweetheart. Eager to please, can be a bit too needy at times but learning every day.
Typical GWP high prey drive. Has expressed an unhealthy interest in horses and cats too.
He does like to jump up for attention but we are working on this.
He also will jump up at the worktop at mealtimes.
Only problem we’ve experienced is this thing where he sees his reflection in the Velux windows at night with the lights on - not sure if he thinks it’s his friends but he will bark once or twice until told no and will then just stare up st the dark and it’s become a bit of an obsession - simple solution is to turn the lights off.
