Oakley practising his walking trail layer indication
Well done Oakley - some great work again today
Line ups are part of the session with some of our groups thanks to @worcestershiresearchandscent
Dottie Learning to pick the correct person from a scent article
We had a great first session with a new group following their ‘introduction’ session last month. Well done to Tasha, Cara, Luna and Mabel on helping your handlers to start to read your signals and for some great searching. Thanks also to Worcester Search & Scent Dogs Ltd for working with us and we hope you are all looking forward to your next session.
If you are interested in the world of Scentwork but don’t know where to start, get in touch for information on our ‘taster’ and ‘introduction’ sessions.
Out on deck today on the next boat and then onto some more beaches before practising my settle in the van xx
Another island, another beautiful deserted beach …..oh go on then …
Two different approaches to enjoying the beach !!
Harry loves to wade like a hippo whilst Milo likes to collect sand !!
Tasha has been on our ‘Introduction to gunoil’ session and has certainly learned the ‘Seek’ part of the journey. She will be returning in the next few months to develop the ‘Scent ID’ and ‘Indication’ skills as well as starting to make the ‘Seek’ a more methodical process. Great Work Tasha and good to see those skills being used x
If you have been on one of our ‘Intro to Scentwork’ courses and want some easy to use and bargain kit ideas, found these today at Aldi - 3 pots for £1.99 ! You can get practising before your next progression session !
If you haven’t joined us yet and want to get your dog into using their nose to search for a specific scent then contact us for spaces in June on our ‘introduction to gunoil session’ 2.5 hour sessions.
Upcoming Courses for June - book ahead as May are already full. Dates to September for Progression Mantrailling only have afternoon spaces left !
Even the lovely Siggy got in on the Camo action and did some great work despite the chickens running loose and giving both her and her handler a lovely workout whilst they searched for their missing person ! X Thanks Worcester Search & Scent Dogs Ltd and The Wilderness Centre
Thanks to Worcester Search & Scent Dogs Ltd and The Wilderness Centre for another great session yesterday and here’s just a quick example of what we got up to. Thanks everyone for a great day and the efforts some of you went to with the full Camo gear - it certainly made for some fun trails.
If you fancy having a go at this fun and social activity then let us know - and if you’ve already been on one of our intro days then the follow on dates have been emailed out xx
Chase attended our Introduction to Gunoil class last week and was sent home with a kit to build up his skills. Here he is working on his Scent ID and Indication and doing a really great job in just a few practise sessions. Great work x
Super Olive from our last SuperPup was also out and about practising her positions in unusual places xx
As well as Puppy classes, we also run SuperPup as a follow on class where we set weekly homework outdoors. Noodles graduated this week but wanted to show his Super Recall ###
When you go for a walk in a new place and get chased off by the locals ! Poor Milo didn’t quite know what to make of the very curious local residents ###
And SuperPup Tasha has been practising using the car ramp on the floor to get used to stepping on it and feeling confident with how it feels underfoot. New surfaces can be a challenge for lots of pups so building confidence and taking time to develop these skills is a great way to build trust.
Lovely Barney started Puppy classes this week and at 13 weeks old has lots of new things to gradually experience. We talk in class about socialisation and also practising settle in lots of environments to allow puppies time to take in all the new experiences. What is perfect is the space his owners have given him from the ducks so that he can listen and watch without being overwhelmed. Perfect learning opportunity xx
After a few hot days not doing much and not having done any Scentwork for ages, Milo had a go at searching for Gunoil again. He won’t ‘search’ until asked so when he walks past on the first part of the video he is just mooching around the garden but once asked he goes into ‘work’ mode. He needed a bit of help in me using my body position to narrow down the search area, but did a great job. In the second search when he moves his head away, I just waited for him to return to the scent before ‘marking’ and rewarding xx
Milo is a Golden Retriever who loves to eat … and I love to grow fruit and veg… so Milo has learnt to ask for permission to share the garden supplies ###
