Buffy's champ agility run at North Derbyshire! So close to a clear!
Great weekend at North Derbyshire show. Lovely to see lots of Freymor folk enjoying their dogs!
Buffers won a grade 7 agility class and did great stuff in champ with just one little mistake on each down to me not being fast enough 🙈. Really pleased that her confidence seems to be back!
Vaia did a lovely run in a grade 2 jumping class with fastest time overall but unfortunately knocked two poles. Very pleased with her as she really struggles in the show environment so great result for her.
Emma Scott and Zeus did really well winning a class and qualifying for the DSD Novice final!
Lots of other places and training wins for Freymordians. Proud of all your successes! Buffy's champ agility and Vaia's jumping run are posted below.
Willow, as an adolescent working retriever, was very giddy and had struggled to walk on a loose lead and focus around other dogs. Susan has done a great job with her and now she's a perfect class member! Because of Willow's focus for her handler and her reward, adding equipment in becomes easy!
Good morning from the European Open Agility Championships!
Buff getting 3rd place in the final of the Championship Class at RVA yesterday! She also placed 3rd in the agility round. Super Buffers!
Our next foundation classes start in July! Congratulations to our last class of graduates!
Buffers winning the KC Agility Stakes qualifier at Ribble Show yesterday!
Buff running at Scunthorpe show! So good to be outside on grass in the sun again 😊
Well.done to all our graduates 🎓! Next course starting next Wed!
Yesterday, we went to Derby to do some training in the ring with the youngsters. Neither of them had been to an indoor show before so the aim for giddy Theory was just to keep him focused in the ring and hopefully, try out some skills. Main focus for Buff was her weaves as they made her too cross at her last show and she couldn't do them! Here's a little video of what we got up to.
Yesterday, we went to Derby to do some training in the ring with the youngsters. Neither of them had been to an indoor show before so the aim for giddy Theory was just to keep him focused in the ring and hopefully, try out some skills. Main focus for Buff was her weaves as they made her too cross at her last show in August and she couldn't do them! She also had her second measure and is officially a toy cat 😂 Here's a little video of what we got up to. Thanks to our sponsors #Stefspetpantry
Ring party yesterday with Freymor was fun and we raised money for boreholes in Africa by donating our ring party fee and buying cake! Thanks to everyone that came to help and lovely you see some of our beginners coming for a look around with their beautifully behaved dogs.
Lots of fab results for Freymor members including wins for Tina Davies and Reggie, Joanna Bower and Haize, Emma Pullan and Boo and Lucy and Carolyn Booth with Rufus.
Really well done everyone 😀 and thanks to Otley for a brilliant, well run show.
Spud ran three classes and got 3rd in the Olympia qualifier, 2nd in jump and 5th on a challenging agility course with a missed aframe. Here is his Olympia run.
Spudley has qualified for the senior Olympia quarter finals at the Kennel Club international festival in August! Here is his run from last weekend at Hinckley.
Spudley running in champ jumping at Nottingham. Clear round on a very challenging course.
Super day at Sunny Scunny! So good to be back outside and there was actual sunshine! Spudley has been so super today getting 3/3 clears in Championship and getting 4th place in the final. Congratulations to Dan and Martin taking the big prizes. Lots of great runs from the Freymor team today and lots of fun between runs. Looking forward to tomorrow!
A little video of some of our beginners working some short jump and tunnel sequences! Looking amazing! Thanks to film producer Liz!
Dec 31st Tip 2 - The value of a reinforcement rich life! Right back at the start at the month, I asked you to make a list of everything your dog enjoys and split in into three sections. The tips, videos and games that have been shown over the month, have shown you a small number of ways of how we use what dogs enjoy doing, to create value for behaviours that they may find less enjoyable but that we need them or want them to do. Rather than using coercion or intimidation, we create our desired behaviours through games and access to and management of what the dog finds rewarding.
We haven't yet talked about the third category on the list - things in the environment that your dog enjoys, but are absolutely not acceptable. These may be chasing cars, joggers, livestock, jumping all over strangers out on walks, mugging people for food. While these are great problems, what you tend to find is if you spend enough time playing games using the reinforcement in your control to create positive associations and build enough value for focus, self-control and other appropriate behaviours, these problems kind of take care of themselves. This may take time but often by taking a holistic approach, taking the focus away from a specific problem and focusing efforts on building relationships and dog skills in different areas, when you actually get back to the problem you had, you find its much less of a problem than it was before!
No one strategy will help every dog, but using the scientific principles of dog training and behaviour combined with creativity and imagination, it's possible to tailor a training progamme for each and every different dog. I have owned five border collies and a miniature American Shepherd. Not one has been the same and has required a different approach to teaching and learning. I am lucky enough to be able to learn from, not just my own dogs, but also client's dogs that I get to work with on a daily basis.
It is easy to feel overwhelmed if you are having
Dec 30th Tip 2 - related to spin and twist is leg weaving. Again, good trick but also a good part of my warm up routine before doing agility. It is also a great game for building value for being with you and confidence at going through and under things. I would rather Dil didn't bark but she is retired and pretty much does what she likes now 😀 Some people more co-ordinated than me can do this trick while walking, which looks very fancy. Feel free to show off by posting in the comments!
Dec 30th Tip 1 - Spin! Can your dog do left and right spins? This exercise is an essential skill required for agility training and an important part of my warm up. I like to have it on both a verbal and physical cue. Dil is retired from agility but still enjoys playing flatwork games and it's a good trick to teach your pet dog. Let's see your spinning dogs!
