Do not be tempted to acquire a puppy if you are unable to meet the puppy’s parents. Parental temperament and behaviour can give you an indication of your puppy’s future behaviour.

The next block of classes for older puppies/adolescents starts on Saturday the 4th of May at 10.30 am in Bridge of Don. These are suitable for puppies who may have missed out on puppy classes, adolescent rescue dogs, or people who feel they may need a little bit of support with their dog.

These are small classes, so I can give everyone plenty of attention and keep distractions to a minimum. A very relaxed, informal class with lots of fresh ideas on how to get your dog to engage with you when you are out and about on walks. I will go over basic skills and throw in a few new ones, which will help give you more control over your dog's behaviour around social distractions but also motivate your dog to want to work with you!

Contact me on WhatsApp- 07551374106. Erinn :)

Have you ever thought about fostering? Would you like to find out more?
Please call in and talk to us and Cats Protection Caithness Branch on Saturday 7 October at the Pentland Hotel in Thurso between 11 and 2.30.
With the very kind permission of Andrew we are joining together with our colleagues to explain what we are doing to try to support owners and help dogs and cats in need of a new home. Our main focus will be to encourage more people to foster at this particularly difficult time but we are happy to meet with you and chat about dogs or cats.
Do come along. Many people say they couldn’t foster for a variety of reasons but you might find it’s not as difficult as you think. We hope to see you there.

Just in case folks don't know, I am doing video consults just now for training and behaviour. Maybe seems strange, but behaviour therapy is about understanding the problem and thinking about things differently - and of course then, changing your behaviours and setting things up for your dog to change behaviours too.
The cost structure has changed too. More info on "phone" / video consults here https://pawsability.co.uk/dogbehaviour/doghelpbyphone.html

Hi, would anyone be interested in a coffee club? An on line general doggy chat group? Thinking perhaps £10 membership and weekly chat group?

We met the world’s first domesticated foxes

Interesting video explaining the difference between domestication and taming. After 60 years of breeding foxes for friendliness to humans - only 70% are people friendly. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4dwjS_eI-lQ&fbclid=IwAR03GJrywEyrrnNgu7iztWBDo_xlqkmjFBH5FX9vUB0JbH2Uu8MMRv7fU-0

We met the very cute and very bizarre result of an almost 60-year-long experiment: they’re foxes that have been specially bred for their dog-like friendlines...

Management. Step 1 of any behaviour plan when working with a complex set of issues - a stress holiday.

This is a really important topic. I cannot count the number of dogs we see regularly with signs of chronic stress. It is so important to understand that exposing your dog repeatedly and regularly to stressful or anxiety-causing events (such as walking past dogs going nuts behind neighbourhood fences every day), will put your dog in a physiological and emotional place where he can no longer cope with normal stimuli appropriately and where he will overreact to seemingly minor situations. A dog with chronic stress cannot learn. A dog with chronic stress will have compromised health. To prevent your dog ending up in a state of chronic stress, pay attention to their emotional state and look for signs of discomfort. Try to avoid exposure to acutely stressful events completely and avoid repetition of less acute, but still clearly stressful situations as much as possible.
