We are always very humbled by all the support we recieve from our volunteers, we would never be able to do what we do without their input. The moment you have all been waiting for!!
Summer programme 2024 is now live! There are lots of new activities on offer. These include a 3 day camp (no camping!), hobby horse making and show jumping and fancy dress pony pamper as well as our standard own a pony, pony picnic, handy pony and pony pamper sessions. If you are not registered with us online please go to https://stable-life.ecpro.co.uk and register as a client and then add riders, you will then see whats available to book.
Day camp will include stable management, lessons and hacks and lots of fun activities, please bring lunch and snacks. The last day will have a show that you are welcome to come and watch.
Hobby horse making will include making a pool noodle hobby horse and then competing in show jumping with said pool noodle. (we will provide the noodles and you can bring accessories and glue to decorate your noodle)
Fancy dress pony pamper will include dressing the pony and rider up (you provide the dressing up stuff) and then an inhand show of the ponies and riders. You are welcome to come and help your child and watch the show.
Own a pony is where the child is allocated a pony (you can request a pony, we cannot gaurantee but will try) and the children will learn how to brush, tack up and go for a hack before returning to check the horses stable before puting them back.
Pony picnic is a ride up the hill on the ponies before having a picnic up there. (you provide the picnic, please let us know of any allergies)
Pony Pamper is where we pamper the pony with a bath (weather dependant) and brush and plait them before a inhand show. Again you are welcome to come and watch the show.
Handy pony is an assault course for the pony and rider.

The kids had great fun learning to take apart a bridle, clean it and put it back together last week at hoof beats. Well done girls! Hoofbeats is our very own pony club on a Friday afternoon from 2-4pm. A ride and stable management is included in the fun. Due to popular demand we are now running hacking hoofbeats every Saturday from 2.30-3.30pm. This costs £25 and includes grooming, tacking up and riding, then checking the stable before puting the pony away. Breathing with the horses and ponies is a brilliant way of grounding yourself in the moment, and slowing the pace of your thoughts. We are still raising funds for The Big Give campaign who are doubling every pound you donate towards buying a special new pony for our yard. We are so excited about our new partnership project Get Active Club! It's amazing to be working alongside G10 Sports to build confidence, resilience and social skills for our young people.

One parent tells her daughter's story...

My daughter ‘has never wanted to go to after-school clubs for various reasons, all related to ASD and anxiety. Having Get Active held where she already feels emotionally safe and secure, and run by someone she has come to know through her Stable Life group gave her enough incentive to attend and break through some of the previous barrier. The small group size works really well for her and she’s become more and more confident there every week. Craig is really observant and intuitive with the kids, picking up on what they might be struggling with and adapting things to suit each individual. She is becoming less self-conscious about some of her preferences, which she can find hard to manage in active groups and her confidence in general us building. After a really difficult year for her, it’s lovely to see her becoming her happy self again.’

Here at Stable Life we use horses and ponies to build up positive and trusting relationships, encouraging responsibility and increasing confidence in the young people we work with, but we couldn't do it without our very special ponies.
Thanks to the Big Give campaign if we reach our fundraising goal of £2,500 by May 28th they will double this money and we will be able to add another amazing pony to our herd!

We are often asked how does being around ponies help our mental well-being?
Our sessions can have a range of mental health benefits, from reducing stress and anxiety to improving overall mood and well-being.

Mindfulness - to be fully present in the moment, focused on the movements of the horse and the environment around them. This mindfulness can help reduce stress and anxiety and improve overall mood.

Physical activity- can help release endorphins and improve overall well-being.

Connection with animals - Horses are social animals, and forming a connection with them can be deeply rewarding. The bond between our ponies and young people can help reduce feelings of loneliness and increase overall feelings of happiness and contentment.

Can you help support us to purchase a new pony to enable us to continue to improve the mental well-being of our young people? We would be forever grateful.

Our ponies really are special, here's the feedback from a young person on what Seamus has meant to them: “I was an anxious person with some really scary thoughts. I didn’t see a point in me being alive, but Seamus looked at me and the look in his eyes where telling me to hold on a little longer. He gives me his legs when I don’t feel like moving, his heart beats for mine when I wanna give up. He is a life saver and he doesn’t even know it”

It's and this year's theme is Movement: Moving for our mental health. Moving more can increase your energy, reduce stress and anxiety, and boost your self-esteem. We certainly see this with the young people at Stable Life. Our ponies play a vital part in supporting the mental health of our young people and we coudn't do it without them.

Over the last year our pony herd has reduced and this year we will see a further reduction as a couple of our ponies look to retire. To enable us to continue to deliver our services we need to find some very special ponies to join the herd and we need your help to do this.

We have been selected as one of the charties to be supported through the Big Give campaign which means that they will double donations that we receive from 12pm today to the 28th May. In essence if we reach our target of £2,500 over the next two weeks it will be doubled to £5,000.

Such a lovely afternoon at the Volunteer Fair in Selkirk organised by and Selkirk Farmers Market.
We turned up at the stand with Buddy, our new pony who was on his best behaviour.
Very many thanks to Sophie Herriot who did an immaculate job of turning Buddy out to look his best. He travelled fine to Selkirk and took it all in his stride.
Thanks to all who came to say hello and remember, we are always looking for Volunteers for many roles around the yard, so never think you have to know loads about horses! We all learn together.

We had great fun today at hoofbeats, our very own pony club. This runs from 2-4pm bi weekly at a cost of £30 per session. The session includes a ride and stable management on many topics including managing the muckheap as some of the kids did today! If you would like to join us please email [email protected]

Handy pony is back! On Friday the 12th of April from 10am - 1pm (book an hour slot) we will be having a handy pony cometition. Handy pony is like an assault course for the pony and rider and we love it! Open to all rider levels from age 4. Come along and enjoy the fun on our ponies.
