What could be possibly better than hitting the ground running, with your dogs health in mind?! Have you heard the saying, you are what you eat? The same applies for our dogs. What better time to supercharge your dogs health, than in the new year!

Feeding your dog a species appropriate diet provides your dog’s body with all of the essential nutrients, vitamins, minerals and amino acids that all contribute to a healthy body and mind.

Kibble is not real food. It is full of inflammatory ingredients, rancid fats and preservatives. Kibble also contains a heap of synthetic vitamins and minerals which are not bioavailable to your dogs body. Fresh, wholesome ingredients will always be superior. Don’t be fooled by clever marketed ‘treats’ as well with a long list of ingredients you can’t pronounce. If you can’t pronounce it, nine times out of ten it means don’t feed it!

Switch to filtered water. This is often overlooked when it comes to health with our dogs. Did you know; Over a third of water courses in England and Wales contain what’s referred to as ‘forever chemicals’. These chemicals are associated with cancer and fertility issues in humans according to the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC).

Their findings reveal that 35% and 37% of tested water courses have medium or high-risk levels of perfluorooctanesulfonic acid (PFOS) and perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA). PFAS have been linked to very alarming health conditions including testicular cancer, thyroid disease, liver damage and fertility problems. This poses the question, what negative consequences will this have on our dogs?

Reconsider the use of chemical flea and worming treatments. Does your dog have a current infestation? Conventional chemical flea and tick treatments from your vet or over the counter, are highly toxic pesticides that accumulate in the blood, skin and tissue. Annual boosters - have you thought about other options first such as titre testing and offering homeopathic nosodes. We need to ask ourselves, are these chemicals and pharmaceuticals necessary?

Happy new year! Let’s make 2024 the year of health and wellness. Together we can make positive changes. 🥩🌱

I've been saying this for dog ears...I mean years. Stop giving rice!

Dogs do no not digest rice very well. White rice in particular has a high glycemic index, meaning it will cause a rapid spike in blood glucose levels. White rice is too starchy to be part of any dogs diet, especially when suffering from GI tract inflammation.

When your dog is unwell or suffering from a stomach upset whether it's in the form of vomiting, diarrhoea or IBS, it is essential to look at the diet as the first cause of the issue. Diet can also be first point to help cure the problem. The most common causes of vomiting and diarrhoea are from either something your dog has eaten, a virus or a food intolerance.

It's important that your dog gets onto a bland diet to help them recover from their gastrointestinal illness. The most common recommendation for a bland diet for a dog is boiled rice and chicken. Rice is suggested as it's classed as a carbohydrate and therefore a starchy food that is supposed to help bind the stools together, reduces diarrhoea and not irritate the stomach, 𝐁𝐔𝐓..

White rice is probably one of the worst foods to feed your dog! Why? White rice has very little nutritional or hydrating benefit for your dog. It's processed into sugar by the body. It's a refined carbohydrate which means it has been stripped of it's nutrition. It's been calculated that 97% of all white rice is genetically modified food.

Another option that's recommended is using brown rice instead of white as it has more nutritional value and takes longer to digest but a dog's digestive system hasn't been designed to digest rice in any form so the nutrients in brown rice aren't available to their body. If you're dog is unwell, it's digestive system is already compromised so adding a hard to digest food into their diet at this stage is likely to cause more irritation and inflammation.

Your dog requires a clean, high quality diet that helps naturally replace lost fluids, electrolytes, nutrients, to help them quickly recover.

Aintree and horses injured or dying.
Struggled to hear about the horses today.
We actually created a sculpture here within the sculpture park - protesting peacefully over horse racing and using any animals for entertainment.
Very divided opinions and of coarse we do respect all opinions - but none the less made us sad 🙏🏻
