Hens Made Easy just made a tad trickier this morning with Eglus turned into Igloos and us bashing though thick layers of ice for frozen drinkers! Minus 6 degrees early on. and first heavy snowfall. Still,looks beautiful. Hands now unfrozen, cosy indoors.Will take them Hen Blox for lunch inside the big sheds to cheer them up...

Battening down the hatches,for storm Babet! Ducks enjoying nonstop rain,ignoring the gales.All coops backed onto the wind into lee of hedge in field. Hen groups, chicks staying indoors where possible,cheering them up with Halley's Hen Blox-they love these nutritious solid peck blocks!( we stock these) Keeps them busy as outside the gathering storm gets going...set to hit tonight. Already fully testing out our waterproofs and wellies, squalls knocking us off our feet!( brainwave of wearing swim cap to keep hair dry and vision clear as we battled away...)

Last Hatchings of the year,only because the Purebreed groups are sensibly heading on strike, soon no eggs with reduced daylight hours-I'll just have to wait till next Spring! ( Chick addicted,sigh).Well,just one Lavender Araucana broody left still to hatch...The basic Brown Hybrid shown here never got the memo that hybrids don't go broody( always one not paying attention,haha).Her chicks having more fun in our orchard than the incubator lot under electric hens in back shed.( but they were cosy). The broody's 10 wee chicks outside huddled under her wings coped with 3 days Deluge, now blustery gales,no doubt Scottish weather soon to move onto snow! ....
