💚 VETERINARY NURSE AWARENESS MONTH 💚

Veterinary Nurses are trained professionals. As well as providing your pet with care and comfort during their stay with us, veterinary nurses can also:

🩸 Take blood samples

💉 Place intravenous cannulas and administer medications

🦴 Take X-rays and assist with other diagnostic imaging such as ultrasound scan, CT scans and MRIs

🦷 Provide dental care advice for your pet, as well as charting the condition of the teeth and carrying out scaling and polishing

🐾 Carry out nurse clinics which include: post-operative checks, administering medication, routine health checks, weight checks, blood pressure monitoring, second vaccinations and more! They also have a wealth of knowledge on a broad range of topics

🧑‍⚕️ “Scrubbing in” to assist veterinary surgeons with surgery. Veterinary nurses can also carry out some minor procedures such as small lump removals and stitch ups

🧪 Running a range of lab samples including blood tests and urine tests

📞 Helping out on reception by answering phones and booking appointments and procedures

📚 Registered Veterinary Nurses can train as clinical supervisors to teach and train the next generation of veterinary nurses

These are just a few of the things veterinary nurses do on a daily basis! 🐾

🐾 💚 Veterinary Nurse Awareness Month 💚🐾

🐶 It takes at least 3 years to fully train and qualify as a Registered Veterinary Nurse.

🐱 Once qualified, nurses have to apply to the RCVS register so they can use the title Registered Veterinary Nurse (RVN).

🐰 While training, Student Veterinary Nurses (SVNs) have to attend college, complete exams and assignments, and complete a skills portfolio, all while learning the practical side of veterinary nursing!

🐍 Veterinary Nurses need to learn about all sorts of pets, including dogs, cats, rabbits, birds, reptiles, snakes and more!

🐭 Veterinary Nurses can train either via an apprenticeship in a practice with day release to college (diploma) or attending a university and completing block placements in practices (degree).

German Shepherd Dogs Ryder and Jet popped in today to see vet, Alice. 🐾

Did you know…

German Shepherds were originally used for herding sheep, but are now more commonly used as working dogs in the armed forces and police. They are also used as guide dogs, and of course, family pets! 🐕

REUNITED WITH OWNER

🚨 LOST DOG 🚨

We have had a male, neutered Bichon Frise type dog handed into us this afternoon. He was found in the Park Row area of Okehampton.

Sadly the microchip details are not up to date so we have not been able to trace his owner.

Please contact us if you think he may be yours - 01837 52148 📞

13/03/2024

We have been notified of a cat found sleeping in a bin storage area on Park Row, Okehampton.

She has been there for the past 3 nights and seems to be struggling with mobility. Unfortunately she runs away as soon as she is approached. She seems to be an older, tortoiseshell cat.

Attempts to catch her to check for a microchip haven’t worked - please check if this is your cat. 🐾
