I have spent 10 years working with dogs, continually updating my knowledge base with courses and qualifications, my personal and professional experience covers a vast range of daily struggles everything from reactivity to people and other dogs to extreme anxiety and noise sensitivity, as well as supporting people with their new puppies, teenage terrors and nervous or fearful dogs. Professional Memberships
International School of Canine Psychology
International Companion Animal Network
Pet Professional Network,

This ensures my continuing professional development and that I maintain the highest kind and ethical standards. In January 2012 we adopted a Battersea rescue dog who really struggled to cope with her anxiety around people and also had severe separation anxiety, she was the reason I started to study dog training and behaviour, she is also the reason I started my own business having struggled to find suitable care for her, and then along the way we adopted 2 more dogs who struggled with daily life in different ways, dog to dog anxiety and self harming ocd behaviours. In October 2012, after being made redundant, I started my own social care business, pet care was one of the services I offered however, within 6 months, I realised that the only part of my day that really made me happy was working with animals and my pet business was launched, the services have changed and developed but I am truly happy, working with dogs and their humans. I have also raised and trained a deaf dog, and my dogs have ranged from a Jack Russell to a Dalmation. I am currently pawrent to a Staffie mix girlie and a rescue male Ambull mix, sadly we lost our EBT to canine lymphoma. I have walked and cared for family and friends dogs for as long as I can remember - from mini schnauzers to a German Shepherd, my aunt had pyrenean mountain dogs. I have also cared for a Stallion named Viking while his owner was at Uni! I have been around all sorts of animals from childhood, I got my first dog when I was at junior school. My aunt and uncle owned a working farm and we spent many happy school holidays there. I have been owned by dogs, cats, ducks, guinea pigs, rabbits, hamsters, snakes, goldfish and koi carp, tree frogs, Chinese water lizards, turtles, tortoises and budgies.

According to a Dogs Trust funded study by Savsnet - University of Liverpool 'Seasonality and risk factors for GSFB in dogs' which was based on research analysed from millions of health records submitted by 245 veterinary practices from across the UK between March 2014 and September 2020

90.6% of grass seed foreign bodies (GSFB) related veterinary cases occur between June and September, with July having the highest incidences.

Spaniel breeds have the greater chance of presenting at the vets with reported GSFB.

Highest risk by location is East of England with lowest number of reports in Wales.

Grass seeds are easily trapped in fur, especially between toes and in ears, they then burrow into the dog's skin.

Symptoms of GSFB include, but are not limited to

Lameness
Head shaking
Sneezing
Redness
Discharge
Swelling and pain

Remove them from your garden and try to avoid them wherever possible.

After your walk

Brush your dogs coat thoroughly

Check between toes, armpits, chest, stomach, ears, nose and gums

If you think your dog/cat has a grass seed foreign body contact your vet immediately.

LETTING GO OF THE LABEL
People love to label things - from containers to personality types, physical or mental differences and everything in between.

Why do we like labels so much? Labels are comforting, they help us to feel more secure.

Labels allow us to close that particular “box”, because it now has a label and we no longer have to think about it or be concerned about it.

It’s been judged, identified, labelled and we can now move on, confident in the belief that there’s nothing more to be done.

We may also be very good at labelling dogs. My dog is stubborn, aggressive, lazy, shy, timid, greedy, jealous, untrainable…. It’s comforting for us to assign a label because it takes the pressure off trying to find out why they behave that way because we might believe that it’s just the way they are.

If we remove the label and take note of the behaviour in context and the circumstances or environment it’s happening in, we may realise that our dogs need our help to cope, not our labels.

Look into what can be done to improve or change that behaviour if it's something you’d like to change.

Sometimes a label does fits, it’s just the way it is and we need to accept that, but sometimes labels hide the need to look beneath the surface and discover what the real cause of that behaviour is.

Welcome little Miss L 🥰 almost 5 months old Labrador Retriever, isn't she gorgeous!

So lovely to be told I came highly recommended, thank you Danielle 😘

Our first walk today, we had a lovely getting to know you bonding session with lots of shade and sniffy walking, some simple games to start to build our relationship with focus and recall included but mostly fun 🫶

Happy Father's Day, you are pawsome🐶❤️🎉

You feed me when I'm hungry,
You keep water in my dish,
You let me sleep on anything
Or in any place I wish.
You taught me how to come when called,
You taught me how to sit,
You always let me go outside,

You'll always have my loyalty,

Stickyweed (Cleavers/Latin Galium aparin) 🌱❤

Have you seen your dog giving it the big NOM NOM NOM’s on this wildly growing plant which is everywhere at the moment?

Don’t panic, stickyweed is actually really good for dogs (and people and horses, who knew?!?)

Stickyweed is rich in vitamin C, a natural diuretic and supports the lymphatic system.

For more information talk to a specialist in nutrition, supplements or natural/herbal medicinal support.

Do you have a dog struggling with reduced mobility due to canine arthritis, join Canine Arthritis Management who can offer help, advice and support.

Canine arthritis affects 4 out of 5 older dogs.

It is an extremely complex disease that requires a dedicated owner collaborating well with their vet to control the pain, maximise mobility and ensure a full and active life for their dog.

This is not something your dog has to die of due to lack of awareness or education.

Our Story

Letting dogs be dogs!

Hi, my name is Debby and I would like to welcome you and your companion to Decorum Dog Walking and Pet Care Service. The business was launched on 16th April 2013, and I have built my business by reputation and love for what I do! I like to create a partnership with each pawrent to ensure their companion gets the best possible experience from their interaction with me. Our initial meeting is completely free, a first step to getting to know each other and finding out what is special and unique about your companion and how I can help you. For your dog, our first walk is all together to establish a bond before beginning regular visits. I think it is vital, to be kind and compassionate when caring for any animal and to provide a stable, safe and happy environment and therefore I believe in only positive rewards and interactions. With dogs, all our walks are about physical and mental stimulation designed to enrich your dog's walking experience and ensure that they get everything they need, stimulating all their senses in a wide variety of environments. Small animal care involves feeding, contact and play, where appropriate. I am fully insured and crb/dbs checked and I have completed my first aid certificate with Animal Aiders and carry their first aid kits at all times. I also have excellent references. As a very experienced pet owner and professional pet carer, I would love the opportunity to help you to look after your companion and can provide a completely unique tailored care plan, giving you peace of mind. I have been around all sorts of animals from childhood, my family owned a working farm and I have worked for an exotic animal importers and a pet shop. I have been owned by and trained a deaf dog, and my dogs have been everything from a Jack Russell to a Dalmation. I am currently pawrent to a Battersea rescue Staffie X girlie and an American Bulldog rescue boy. I have walked family and friends dogs for as long as I can remember - from mini schnauzers to a German Shepherd, my aunt had pyrenean mountain dogs. I have also cared for a Stallion named Viking while his owner was at Uni. I have been owned by ducks, guinea pigs, rabbits, hamsters, snakes, goldfish and koi carp, tree frogs, Chinese water lizards and budgies, as well as cats and dogs, so can provide care for other pets within the home, as required.
