Mr Monty's Fuss and Feed Cat sitting service based in Surbiton and Mr Monty's Emporium selling feline inspired arts and crafts from talented UK artists. Much nicer than the cattery!

Hello - I'm Monty - welcome to my page. Mr Monty's Fuss and Feed is a cat concierge service for discerning cat owners and their feline friends. I've trained my people, Graham and Elaine, to the very highest standards and now I'm hiring them out to look after other cats, in their own homes, while their people are away. As well as fuss and feed services, look out for my Emporium which will

open soon on my website - www.mrmontysfussandfeed.co.uk. I've got my scouts out looking for beautiful and unusual cat-related arts and crafts work from British makers. And keep up with my latest news as well as tips on what we felines like (and strongly object to!) on my blog - The Scratching Post.

Berrylands people, please could you help to find my lovely friend Nigel? He's been missing from his home in Pine Gardens since Sunday morning. It's very unlike him to be away from home so long and his people are worried he might be trapped in an outbuilding or garden.
If you live in the area, please could you look in your sheds or garages? He might be trapped in a property where the owners have gone on holiday. Any information will help his people who are very worried about him.
Please share! ###

With the in full swing, cat owners should be mindful of the signs of heatstroke. 🐱🌡️ Heatstroke is a very serious condition that can cause severe dehydration, organ damage and death. Obese, long-haired, old, young and brachycephalic/flat-faced cats (such as Persians) are most at risk of developing heatstroke because they find it harder to cool down.

The most common cause of heatstroke in cats is being accidentally trapped in a hot, poorly ventilated space such as a shed, greenhouse, conservatory, or garage, so make sure to keep an eye on your cat in very hot weather! ☀️ If your cat is showing symptoms of heatstroke, start cooling them down immediately and contact your vet. The quicker your cat is cooled down and treated by a vet, the better their chance of recovery.

See advice from our vets on what you can do to help prevent or provide first aid for heatstroke: http://pdsa.me/amQc

🧊 Please note that ice cubes are perfectly safe for cats to use as a treat to cool down on a hot day. It is when a cat is suffering from heatstroke that the drastic change in temperature from the ice can cause shock and, therefore, should be avoided. A cat’s normal body temperature ranges between 38.1-39.2°C (100.5-102.5°F).

Thank you Amy!

As cat carers, we have both responsibilities and opportunities to provide a safe, comfortable and fun environment for our feline friends. It's not always easy to know where to begin however, as their needs are often quite different to our own. As the temperature rises, we all find ways to keep cool and stay hydrated, from relaxing in the shade to carrying a water bottle with us wherever we go. But what about our feline friends? When left to their own devices, most cats will just find a shady spot and sleep all day, but some cats, especial

How lovely. I think I might have a little bit of grit in my eye...

I have been treating cats for many years and already know how integral they are to the family. Like every animal they bring something incredibly special to the world. Earlier this year my family unit was expanded by Ricochet – my Maine C**n buddy, who enriches my life just as Keira (my border terrier) has done for the last 12 years too.

Ricochet is amazing. He loves his space but also loves to invade mine. He strides out with fierce curiosity every time we go outside. He loves to play but also being calm and listening. But what I love most about him is his ability to make me smile whatever is going on, whatever he is doing. Like Keira, he emits a positive light into my life that I am hugely grateful for. Thanks to days like today we can all reflect on how lucky we are and how we should never take it for granted.

This bond I have with Ricochet and the bond I see others share with their feline friends is what drives me on to make things a little better for all cats, and hopefully make the world that little bit wider and kinder, by being there for them like they are for us.

So for I want to say thank you to Ricochet, for being my special feline friend but also thank you to ALL the amazing p***y cats. You are a significant part of what makes the world a wonderful place. 🐱 x

Can anyone help?

This is Figit, Mischief and Ginger. They came into us recently after their elderly owners could no longer look after them.

They are so friendly and loving and we really hope we will be able to keep them together and find them a new home as a trio.

They are all 14 years old which we are afraid will put a lot of people off. They have all had vet checks and they are perfectly healthy and happy. There’s no reason to doubt they could live for another 6 or so years.

Could you be their new family?

Royal Caninhelps us keep our cats health in check! Can you take the Pledge and assert that you feed your cat little and often whilst providing quiet places for them to eat and drink? https://internationalcatday.org/happy-cat-pledge It can be easy to overfeed our cats when they look at you with those eyes 😹But for their healths sake we must be responsible owners and carers.

Hehehehe!! They’ve just ordered a swanky new tower for me - I heard them cooing over it. So they can expect the same response from me! I’m looking forward to the box though! 😹

Sad but helpful 😿

This Top Tip Tuesday we offer advice on managing grief at the loss of a cat.

When our cat dies we undoubtedly experience grief. How we express that grief is a product of numerous considerations. As grief is a very personal thing it is extremely hard to know whether what we are experiencing when we lose our cats is normal. Here are a few examples of symptoms.

Physical signs
• Shock
• Crying, lump in throat
• Shortness of breath, tightness in chest
• Nausea, loss of appetite/ increased appetite
• Exhaustion, dizziness, aches and pains
• Disturbed sleep/ inability to sleep

Emotional signs
• Sadness, anger, depression
• Guilt, anxiety, irritability
• Relief, loneliness, helplessness

Intellectual signs
• Confusion, lack of concentration, hallucinations
• Need to talk about the loss, need to rationalise the loss
• Preoccupation with death and the after-life

Social signs
• Withdrawal from contact with others
• Rejection of help from others

Here are a few tips to help you to recover:
• Accept that grief is perfectly normal
• Accept help from family and friends. Don’t take to heart anything that is said by someone who doesn’t understand owner/pet relationships
• Talk to someone, there are professional bereavement counsellors who are there to help you
• Make a scrapbook or have a photo enlarged and framed; creating a memento can be a comfort
• Look after yourself whilst you are grieving
• Allow yourself time to mourn but try to return to normal routines soon
• Understand that recovering from grief does not mean you forget about your lost cat or you love them any less
• Considering getting another cat is not disrespectful to the memory of the departed. It’s a compliment!
