Walking With Willow and my owner, mum, AKA: Ruth. Willow is my 5 year old Tibetan Terrier x Bichon dog. This is through Dog Aid and my amazing local trainer Laura.

Enjoy looking around our page, all the photos, videos and exciting updates from now and the last 18 months as well as following all my adventures as an official assistance dog with Dog A.I.D. She's full of beans, loves having fun and is my fully qualified assistance dog. Willow has come so far and together after months and months of hard work and training she passed all three levels and got her as

sistance dog certificate and jacket! Willow can do so many things but just a few, she can fetch on command either from by my side or into another room and back again, bringing me anything I drop and getting me my phone, medical bags, keys, purse, notes and more. She can also help me with the washing, getting undressed, opening and closing doors and is learning what to do when I collapse and how to get help. She is also trained in medical alerts for me and this has saved my life, on more than one occasion. She has come far and I am so proud but every day she is learning more and so am I but most importantly we both love it and that's what matters. All Willow wants to do is be by my side and please me and she does that and so much more. As well as running around the park, woods and field like any other dog and chasing squirrels and rolling in anything she can find! We continue to learn every day but she has already changed my life in so many ways and I can't wait for every day ahead now because with Willow I am independent, confident and safe and before I had lost nearly all hope but then Willow came along and reminded me there is hope and with her I can live a life to the full I’ve always wanted!

Little video coming soon (as Mum was filming for “a typical day at the gym” anyway) but instead it captured me alerting Mum not once but twice at the gym today! I knew she was pushing too hard!

Thankfully I was there to stop her full on passing out (but it came close!)

Medical alert dogs really do save and keep their owners alive 24/7.

Rest now Mum,
Rest.

Supporting Mum at her hospital appointment with the whole MDT team, we’re seeing them every six weeks at the moment. Keeping a super close eye on her.

But her lovely consultant always quotes on how well behaved I am and today as always I was so proud to be by Mum’s side

Mum is abandoning me later toady/tonight to go partying and although I’m allowed with her I’m choosing not to go this time and I know she’s safe as she’s with lots of family/friends.

But most importantly what do you think of mum’s *cough, now MY new head gear?

Ps. Should I give it back to her??

I take my job as Mum’s assistance and medical alert dog, extremely seriously!

My job isn’t just a job though it’s my life, my passion, my joy, my worry, my soul, it’s through my veins to my paws and my fluffy fur and waggy tail, it’s me and Mum, Mum and me, Ruth and Willow, we are just two peas in a pod, each others partners in crime but always one, one soul, (two hearts) but one unstoppable life changing indescribable team.

Nights are hard.

Long nights..

But I’ve got you,
I’ve got you Mum.
24/7 I will protect you.
I wish I could take away your pain, illness and daily battle of the situation you’re in, I hate seeing you suffer and knowing your life is limited because of this.

But I’m not leaving your side.
I’m right here:
I love you

Willow Spurr is one VERY happy doggy today! Why you ask?

Well..
Because.. it’s MY birthday! I’m 8 today! 09/01/2016. *Note though! Before someone says “ooh 8 is an old dog now!” Watch me run, play, do my tasks and jobs (which I adore by the way and get assessed every year for!) I got soo much sprightly life in me yet! Young at heart or should I say young at paws, always!

We continue to find the joys wherever we can both dog, canine and human, experiences, adventures and most importantly making lots of fun memories (alongside lots of cheese! Always time for cheese!)

Thank you for always supporting me and Mum, we appreciate your comments, love and support so much

My home = wherever Mamma Ruth is.
This video really makes us both smile!

We are still in hospital (8 weeks and counting) it isn’t easy, lots of ups and downs but we are getting there slowly and I visit every day, it’s tough but we’re two tough cookies and no matter what I’ll be there

On the left the photo posted..

On the right photo deleted..

But then we un-deleted it and shared because every photo is a good photo, is a memory, is a moment and yes we may not look our best, I mean look at me with my tongue half sticking out, my ears flying in the wind and my eyebrows aren’t on “fleek” as I’ve heard Mum say!

But, I’m happy because I’m with Mum, she’s giving me kisses and cuddles and I just wanna stay forever in this moment. So, yes sometimes photos don’t come out how we want them to but wait a few moments before you delete it and ask yourself or each other..
“Were you happy in that moment?
“Does this photo or video bring or remind you of happy times and happy memories?

Thank you for all your love and comments to Mum, who’s still in hospital and will be for some time, it’s all passed on and means so much to us both to have your support. We appreciate and love you all!

Hey everyone,

It’s been a little while!

Unfortunately we’ve been quiet because over a month ago, 5 weeks next week, Mum got rushed back into hospital and has been there since.

Things really aren’t good with Mum’s health, she needs all the love, TLC and hugs we can muster!

But I’m doing all I can and giving all the doggy Willow magic medicine I can in cuddles, dog kisses, hugs and love I can.
Till then we just keep taking it one day at a time

We’re travelling back home tonight, (well we currently still travelling) but the memories we’ve made on this holiday will last forever 🫶🏻

We’ll do a big photo holiday montage album soon but there is A LOT to get through (as you can imagine!) For now though I just wanted to share these as I think these capture just how happy we both are and the love I have for Mum and well, just what a team we are. Seven years we’ve been together now.
Soppy doggy sentence alert but I woofing love you so very much Mum, you are me and I am you and together we are one

I know I’ve super quiet recently but it’s because we’ve been on holiday these last 10 days in Cornwall!

Mum was dreaming of this and me too of course and we’ve got many photos and videos to show you but for now we just enjoying being in the moment.

But to give you a little smile we thought we’d leave you with this little jem below!
Enjoy!

Mummy hasn’t been well overnight but because we were both so awake we decided to get up and dressed (well new pjs at least!) and now I’m guarding Mum on sofa for strict rest! 🤚🏻

If you see her not resting feel free to tell her off/remind her its important to rest! I know she has soo many followers/friends and people who reach out to her and she wants to help but she must look after her too! My job as an assistance dog isn’t just practical tasks, like fetching mums meds kit overnight, helping her get undressed and shower safely, to making sure I alert if needed (medical alert for her POTS) all of which I did last night. It’s also supporting her emotionally and mentally.
I’m sure fellow assistance dogs and any dogs out there, working dogs or not, agree right?
Also who can ever resist our gorgeous doggy cute eyes? 👀😍🥰

Looking after Mummy whilst she has yet more tests and infusions at the hospital; she’s putting on a brave face but she really is struggling and *unfortunately has had to cancel made weeks in advance for today*

It’s been really upsetting but I’m giving all the cuddles I can!

Our story

Willow is a four year old Tibetan Terrier x Bichon dog. She's full of beans, loves having fun and is Ruth’s fully qualified assistance dog. This is through Dog Aid and the amazing local trainer Laura. Willow couldn't fetch anything on command and bring to hand this spring/summer of 2017 and then six months later after a lot of hard work she can fetch on command perfectly, brining Ruth anything she drops and getting me my phone, medical bags, keys, purse, drink and more. She can also help Ruth with the washing, opening and closing doors and alerts before Ruth’s blackouts (due to POTS, one of her conditions alongside EDS, MCAS and secondary conditions and complications she suffers from) and then how to get help too. She has come so far in the last four years but especially the last two and Ruth is so proud. She helps to give her independence and confidence and in such difficult and at times dark world of chronic and serious illness Willow brings not only day to day help, life saving alerts but so much hope and happiness. All Willow wants to do is be by Ruth’s side and do her job. As well as that though Willow loves running around the park, woods and fields, playing, walks and training just like any other dog and of course is a mud lover and loves rolling in anything she can find! Follow our journey, our highs, lows, adventures and just making the most of every moment of life we can together by each others side.
