We just published a new video on our YouTube channel, and in this episode of Benji's Kitchen, we're making these healthy, delicious tennis balls. I must say, they were an absolute hit, and all the dogs loved them (watch until the end for the final taste test), although once they figured out the balls were edible, there wasn't that much fetching going on 😅 Would your pup like one of these?
We used the recipe from The Forever Dog LIFE book by Dr. Karen Becker and Rodney Habib, which we can't recommend enough! If you haven't already, check it out - your dog will thank you 🐶❤️

Finally, we’re at a turning point in veterinary nutrition. ✨ Vets are the last group of formally trained medical professionals to still actively (and sometimes aggressively) promote the exclusive feeding of ultra-processed, pelleted food for a lifetime (birth to death), as a means to achieve longterm health. 🥺❓
This incongruent and unorthodox recommendation is a result of our nutrition education during veterinary medical school. As of now, every vet school around the world is endowed by a Big Pet Food brand, so their nutrition curriculum is funded, prepared and executed (taught) by the top (ultra-processed) pet food manufacturers (or faculty funded by them), so our future vets don’t have access to unbiased nutrition information. But our Next Generation vet students are asking more questions 💥; aren’t less processed, fresher foods healthier for all mammals? How does heat and extended, unregulated, storage temps affect added nutrients, flavorings, palatants and additives 🌡️? Where are all the synthetic nutrients coming from, and is anyone regulating safety? In the U.S., there’s no limit on the amount of copper and other minerals in pet food… and what happens when we feed excessive amounts in perpetuity?
While some vet med students may not feel nutrition is relevant to their future (see link in graphic), and some (correctly) feel they aren’t adequately prepared for the job ahead of them, we have a whole new generation of intelligent, inspired, and empowered veterinary students who actually understand all of these issues, and are moving forward with a clear sense of what needs to happen in veterinary hospitals around the world, but also what has to happen in the industry ☄️. The next generation of present-knowledge vets is here… let’s support the heck out of them❣️

Dehydration in dogs becomes a concern when your furry friend loses more fluids than it takes in, affecting crucial bodily functions like joint lubrication, organ cushioning, digestion, and temperature regulation. Water plays a vital role in allowing your dog’s cells to absorb nutrients. While some water loss is normal due to activities like panting and urinating, dehydration can be triggered by insufficient intake, acute vomiting or diarrhoea, heatstroke, illness, or underlying conditions like kidney disease or diabetes. Watch out for signs such as loss of skin elasticity, reduced energy, dry nose, and sunken eyes. To address dehydration, make sure your dog has constant access to fresh water, and consider electrolyte replacement fluids if needed. Persistent symptoms demand immediate veterinary attention for addressing underlying issues. You should of course take preventive measures and adjust water intake based on factors like weather and activity level, and seek personalised veterinary advice based on your dog’s age, weight, and condition.

Before taking your dog out for a walk, use the '7-second rule' to check if the pavement is too hot for their sensitive paws. Here's how:

- Place the back of your hand on the pavement.
- Hold it there for 7 seconds.
- If it's too hot for you, it's definitely too hot for your pup! 🐾

Hot pavement can burn your dog's paws and cause serious injuries. To keep them safe, walk them early in the morning or later in the evening when the ground is cooler. You can also try walking on grass or shaded areas.

Let's keep our furry family members happy and healthy this summer! Share this tip to spread the word and protect our pets. 🌞❤️
