First time outside in the sunshine for these chicks at almost 6 weeks. Interestingly it’s always the gold laced chicks that take the longest to feather up.
A very long and expensive trip but Larry is here. And wow isn’t he stunning chap 😍
My blue and black group out for a scratch in the sunshine while cleaning out coops this afternoon ☀️
I always look forward to doing this bit! So on day 10 of incubation I candle the eggs to check fertility and dispose of any infertile eggs 🥚. Here you can see a little embryo bobbing up and down inside this egg.
I’m pretty sure Iv got my first splash chick from my black and blue breeding group! A 25% chance of breeding a splash chick. Il post a breeding chart for you to understand and a video of the newly hatch little cutie 🥰 🐣
This is proof off how cheeky and quiet Orpington’s are. This girl joules always likes to escape from her pen to join us. Especially when there’s a picnic 🧺 🤣
These little guys are now 2 weeks old and have now come outside to the chick boxes. Won’t be long before they outgrow the box!

Day old LF Orpington 🐥 👀🏡 from beautiful fluffy pure bred parents. Blue/Black/Buff and Gold laced.
I was very pleased to get home this morning after milking and mucking out the horses to find 100% had hatched 🐣 a mixture of colours in this group of blue black gold laced and buff. Happy Mother’s Day! 🌷
So we have our first chick of 2022 out of its shell 🐣
So it’s been a busy morning cleaning out pens and sorting the birds into breeding groups. Will be testing fertility in 3 groups in the next few weeks. I’m still awaiting on the arrival of my jubilee cockerel which I’m really excited about! 4 breeding groups this year ❤️🐥🐣
It’s nearly that time of year again! We will soon be busy bringing back in the big incubator to test fertility. This year il be hatching smaller batches of chicks but more colour varieties. There will be Buff/Gold laced/black/blue and jubilee Orpington’s.
