The Dog Jogger A London-based doggy day care and fitness service that fulfills a dog's every need, including the mo The happy dog and the happy owner is what we’re all about.

When Julie and I set up Urban Mutts, it wasn’t just because we were experienced at looking after dogs, it was because we both had a particular philosophy about the way in which we would care for them. Having both been brought up around dogs, and recognising the enormous influence of their presence throughout our lives, we have allowed them to continue to play a role in the way that we raise our fa

mily. We realise that our dogs – meaning not just those that we own ourselves but the ones whose care is entrusted to us each day – make an important contribution to the makeup of our home. By knowing their individual identities and characteristics and, through that, providing each of them with the time and attention that best addresses their needs, we not only ensure that we nurture the very best qualities in each of them individually, we protect and cultivate the harmonious and happy environment that is the backdrop of our family’s life. We believe that at least once a day a dog should be allowed to be just a dog. To us, that means getting them out of the concrete jungle and into nature, and letting them put all of their animal instincts to full use. The combination of mental and physical exercise, as well as the encouragement of pack discipline, not only develops their minds, depletes their energy and promotes stress-free urban lives, it ensures consistency of good behavior when later in the day they’re required to go home and accommodate their owners’ lifestyles. Welcome to the Urban Mutts experience.

The Dog Jogger

Barry Karacostas AKA The Dog Jogger

My name is Barry and I have dedicated my life’s work to understanding and helping dogs lead happy and healthy lives in our ever growing urban environment. For the last 12 years I have been specializing in training, fitness and pack dynamics of working breeds. I believe that if we nurture a dogs natural instinct both mentally and physically they are easier to train and better pets for their owners.

My daily runs with the pack encourage them to engage with one another in a pack environment. We naturally love to spoil our dogs, as the love we have for them is often overwhelming. This can, in many cases, have a negative effect on their behavior especially in the more dominant breeds such as Rottweilers, Huskies, Ridgebacks and Weimaraners. Allowing dogs to interact with one another during pack run’s enables them to engage with their natural instinct e.g establishing their place in that pack (pecking order) and ‘roaming’ as a pack. This drains their energy both mentally and physically in a controlled and happy environment.

I have also worked very closely with teams of Huskies in the Arctic. This breed is one, that really does show us where all dogs came from and how happy they are when doing something they were bred to do.
