Dinner time training 😊 And before all his fans ask .....Basil the Beagle isn’t allowed to join in as he thinks they’re all for him. 🤣🤣
Sometimes in training you have to take two steps back to move forward...... Towards the end of the last shooting season Ginny, who was still quite young, unfortunately got mugged by another dog when delivering a bird to me. This has made her wary of coming in close if there’s other dogs near me. We’ve worked on delivery on her own and that’s fine but, as this video shows, we’ve still some work to do on her confidence with 4 dogs sat up behind me. We’ve built this up from one dog to four but obviously need to take a step back. We’ll get there 😊
Pups out practicing for the GB Synchronised Stop Whistle team 😊
Playing in water today 💦💦
Took the pups out into the BIG field for the first time today. Concentrated on small sessions of off lead and on lead heel work as well as the Stop whistle (still backing this up with a verbal command as new environment) and recall to the whistle. 😊
An early morning steadiness session with my picking up team 😊
Today’s lesson was steadiness around game and also reinforcing the ‘Leave It!’ command 😊
Had the pups out and about this weekend acclimatising them to their future world. This is how they reacted to being next to a clay shoot. They also reacted in a similar manner when they attended a Spaniel working test today!
Pups had they’re first little paddle today. We are lucky to have a beautiful clear river running through the village with a stone based ford so the pups can walk in gradually at their own pace. A few pieces of kibble dropped into the water encouraged them to take those first few steps. Both had leads on for safety and were recalled out after a short paddle If you introduce a pup slowly like this and keep it all calm you shouldn’t have any issues when starting water training in earnest later.
90% of the pups training is done on a 1-2-1 basis but every now and again I up the game by doing a few joint exercises. Here’s a simple split food bowl retrieve 😊
Pups tried their first tandem village walk today - apologies for the poor video but it’s hard to record, walk two 13 weeks pups to heel and not walk into anything 🤣
Now at the grand old age of 12 weeks the Labrador puppies are honing their recall through cover skills!
The beautiful Bracken demonstrates how teaching ‘hold’ to your dog makes them such good little helpers around the home. Well done Laura! 😊
Puppies now approaching 11 weeks old. This week we’ve introduced the ‘Leave it!’ command, on lead heel work and moved to a more distracting environment in the training paddock. All these new things incorporated into Food Bowl Retrieving.

A huge well done to Emily and William for finally getting the heel work break through she has been working so hard to achieve.
Perseverance pays off again!! Very proud of you both😊
Fun in the sun with recall practice 😊
Proofing steadiness and recall to the whistle in a new environment 😊
Better weather today meant we could do a bit of heel work practice in the paddock 😊
Bad weather doesn’t stop training for 10 week old Labrador pups!
A bit of steadiness training with the Copse Hill spaniels on this sunny Sunday morning 😊
Laura with Bracken demonstrating beautifully how the 'Sit & Step off" exercise can be utilised in everyday tasks. Well done ladies!
Here at Copse Hill we love to see how our clients are progressing with their homework.....Well done to Jaymi and her cocker spaniel Fennel on their marked retrieve homework - looking fantastic!!
Level 3 class working on their back to back retrieving- nice work ladies !!😊
