This magnificent being is Coco, she's just started her one month 121 training package with me, working on not chasing cyclists and joggers.
Yesterday we worked on building toy focus and a chase recall and she took to it like a duck to water.

Tally was the most terrified, shut-down dog when she came to us on foster back in 2018. Now she's the happiest little ginger fluff, helps out in classes and is our stooge dog for helping other dogs' confidence and reactivity.

• Exciting news – we are delighted to share that we will be speaking at this year’s Congress.
Our Founder and Director, Gwen Bailey, along with Puppy School Tutor Louise Otter of will be presenting on Sunday 13th October. Our talk is titled “Puppy greetings – the new puppy play” and we will share with Veterinary Nurses a new way for puppies to meet each other calmly and safely, making it easier for them to develop positive relationships with others and with their vet practice.

We're Surrey and South London Dog Training and Behaviour and we offer a wide selection of training for dogs of all ages.
📍In Beckenham, Penge, Crystal Palace, Streatham and West Wickham we run Puppy School classes, a six week indoor course for young puppies.
📍At our school field venue in Crystal Palace (St. Joseph's on Crown Dale) we offer outdoor adult classes including Calm and Controlled, Scentwork, Agility, Recall, Hoopers, Gundog Games, Puppy Club and lots more.
📍In Lingfield we offer Calm and Controlled, Recall, Scentwork and Agility at Carewell Canines training field
🐕One to One training packages are also available for those with specific issues or who would prefer private tuition.
☺️Our Happy Handling course is held online so dogs all over the world can attend without distractions or stressors of being around others.

First solo ride with Cian today and he was absolutely perfect ☺️ - amazing to see the trust building over the last few weeks.

Boofy enjoyed his first trip to Ziggy's pet shop in Forest Row. He got lots of treats from the ladies there and we bought him an enormous ostrich bone to help keep those teenage chompers busy.
Aside from nearly knocking over the dog statue at the entrance, he was otherwise a very good boy. Still looking for his forever home, get in touch with .sanctuary if he might be your next pup

It's time to properly introduce Cian, my new horse love who I'm very fortunate to have found to share. He's 19, a Dutch Warmblood and spent his working life as an International Champion Driving horse. He lives only ten minutes' drive from me and he's kept immaculately by his owner who is a horse physiotherapist.
He likes apples, doing stretches for carrots, dressage (he does an excellent piaffe!) and using his brain.
He dislikes chickens (terrifying), flappy plastic and sudden noises.
Isn't he beautiful. See stories (highlight non-dogs) to follow the training we've started.
NB his bridle isn't done up correctly in this pic, I'm still learning!

We are proudly part of the Puppy School family and part of mine and Neal's roles as Regional Managers includes visiting tutors within the London region on a regular basis to check that classes are being taught to a high standard.
This week it was our very own Lilly having her first class visit from me and she absolutely smashed it. Lilly runs our Puppy School classes in Beckenham on Tuesday evenings as well as running a successful dog walking and boarding business .dogs

Socialising your new puppy should be fun, safe and enjoyable for all. I emphasise how socialisation is about getting used to the world and how to behave with different creatures, in different environments. It doesn't mean playing with every dog they meet or meeting every person they see as puppies can easily be overwhelmed and it's simply not always appropriate to say hi to everyone. Going for a walk with an older, steady dog is one of the best socialisation exercises, provided your pup learns to mooch and sniff, not constantly pestering for play. Small bouts of play are of course ok, checking games are even and the dogs pause and take turns. Our Puppy Club social sessions, held in Crystal Palace, are the perfect accompaniment to our Puppy School courses. One of the BEST behaviours to teach your puppy is to settle on cue. In our Puppy School classes we reinforce settling between every exercise. If you're sitting in your seats, puppy needs to be learning to relax and switch off, resulting in a dog who can be calm in all sorts of environments. I've never taught scentwork to any species other than dogs. I'm applying the same theory, with adaptations to the species in terms of reinforcer-delivery. Cian knows how to hand target with his nose, so that made the early phase of pairing the Kong with reward easy. I had used Kong on a stick to add distance between me and the Kong, which essentially turned into a target stick. I got stuck with not being able to get Cian to target the Kong reliably without me holding it, until Neal suggested reinforcing away in a bucket. This video is an amalgamation of a 90 minute session, broken into batches of 5-20 repetitions per go. I'm thrilled with the results and am looking forward to introducing him on scent pipes next time. All in all he had one apple three pony nuts broken up and two carrots chopped up small for his rewards.
