Guy Robertson
Working with a few young horses, guiding them through my fundamental exercises to develop them mentally, physically, and functionally.
* Mentally—creating relaxation, helping them find balance in both body and mind.
* Physically—developing their ability to direct energy with purpose and control. Managing a horse physically is key to staying safe around them, ensuring that we can direct them with accuracy and not be run over
* Functionally—preparing them to adapt to any situation while maintaining focus and confidence.
Good horsemanship isn’t just about training—it’s about safety, communication, and setting horses up for success.
“Let them eat grass!” 🌱 One simple technique I’ve found to help an anxious or bothered horse is to let them graze. It’s something I often use during my trail clinics when a horse starts to get worried. This 3-year-old gelding tends to feel unsettled when away from the herd, so I’ve been spending time letting him graze away from the barn and his buddies. It’s been a great way to help him relax and build confidence.#HorseTraining #HorseCare #Horsemanship #TrailTraining #CalmHorse #HerdBound #RelaxedHorse #EquestrianLife #GrassTherapy

Guy has a wealth of experience and knowledge in trailer loading and problem solving, it varies with each horse and situation. We can help load young horses to give them positive experiences loading or we can help reeducate the reluctant loader or maybe you have an inconsistent loader, goes on at home but not to come home from an event or venue?

I get asked a lot about when we should ‘start/break’ our young horses. For me the process begins as soon as we first come into contact with them. From the start I’m looking at developing them mentally, physically and functionally. That doesn’t mean I’m dragging them out and ‘training’ them everyday, far from it, but I’m conscious that I’m preparing them and laying those foundations for the future. This little horse is Woody a weanling Welsh D at a demo we did last February.
Functionality is a phrase I find myself using more and frequently. I need my horses to be strong mentally and responsive physically but I also need to be able to use them and that carry through outside the arena. All the horses in the river are horses that I trained and or started. 1 quarter horse 2 Welsh horses and 2 ex racehorses. It doesn’t matter what breed, type or arena they are destined for the training program has to build on the functionality of the horse.
I start around 100 horses each year for the general public. I love starting and working with young horses. They teach me so much about my approach as they have limited experience and are always trying to make sense of the situation. Each one teaches me something new and just when I think I have all the answers I’m reminded that I’m not even close! This was a young stallion who could be a little resentful of trying to tell him what to do! #alwayslearning #horsemanship #traininghorses
