We have received lots of fantastic feed back from horses on our Condition & Show mix, here is a picture Louise Robinson sent in, please keep sending your pictures and stories to us we love to hear them.

She’s 17year old. She’s a bit of an all rounder and we currently do a bit of low level jumping and show cross. Most recently taking up showing and been quite successful at it! Every judge commented on her condition and couldn’t believe she was 17!

Her full name is Fairfield Wild Sapphire.

I plan to take her all the way up to Grand Prix and hope to do the young horse PSG when she is 7/8years old .

We have bred a few dressage foals now but we have always said all along she is definitely not for sale !

Approximately 60% of competition horse are affected by gastric ulcers.
Feeding tips for horses prone to ulcers.
Try and provide as much forage as your horse will eat.
Horses only produce salvia when they chew and salvia is a natural buffer to stomach acid.
Avoid long periods without forage.
Horses prone to weight gain soak the hay, soaking hay reduces the sugar content.
Double layer hay nets for horses prone to weight gain, this will increase their eating time.
Feed the correct amount of compound feed, containing all the correct vitamins and minerals.
Oils and fatty feeds are thought to be beneficial to horses with gastric ulcers as they perform a repellent barrier over the stomach lining so choose a high oil feed rather than a high starch.

Exercise increases abdominal pressure, causing acid to ‘splash’ on to the stomach lining in the non-glandular region where it increases the risk of ulcers forming. Feeding short chopped fibre helps to prevent so called ‘gastric splashing’ by forming a protective ‘fibre mat’ on top of the contents of the stomach.

We have had lots of shiny healthy horse competing on the eventing field this May, all the horses showed tremendous stamina and control thanks to our products.

Our most popular product for eventer is the " Going For Gold" this has been formulated by Peter Fricker with help from eventer Sam Ecroyd & nutritionist Keith.

Here's what Sam had to say about the product formulation !!

We have top class competition horses here. Essentially as trainers, we manage their exercise and feed them, so it's important that both are of the highest standard.

It seemed to me that adding lots of supplements to a feed essentially meant the feed couldn’t be right for the horse. Feeding supplements gives rise to issues: potential inconsistency (missing one out or varying the appropriate quantity) as well as being expensive and time consuming. I found we were consistently adding “stuff” to feed and I thought – why isn’t this in the bag?

So I sat down with Peter and discussed the principle, which he has enthusiastic about and with the help of a top nutritionist, we set about designing a complete competition feed that would address all our horse's needs. After tweaking the original formula to optimise performance we arrived at what is now Going for Gold.

A competition horse has a lot of needs: He needs energy – enough to provide speed and stamina without blowing their brains. Too little protein the horses can't maintain their weight, too much, they tie up. Low/no starch alone isn’t the answer because that detracts from the ability of the horses body to deliver quick power. So getting the balanced formula to provide the energy required without risking boiling up or tying up was necessary. Muscle building requires specific amino acids - included; Competition horses are prone to ulcers, not only in the stomach but also the hind gut so probiotics and other agents are needed to control those – they are in the bag. Good feet needed – biotin included. In fact everything a horses body needs is included in that bag. The more you learn about equine nutrition the more you learn it is both a science and an art. It’s not about just chucking ingredients in a bag: the science dictates the ingredients required, the art is in getting the balance right, the right formula, Frickers formula

I have been running my horses on Going for Gold now for two years. The horses love the feed, even finicky eaters eat up. They have never felt better. I vary the amount I feed according to the amount of work each horse does. I totally believe that this is a unique complete feed for a competition horse
