Working your horse long and low involves stretching and elongating their topline, from the tail to the poll.
It helps to build their topline, strengthening the ‘suspension’ muscles underneath you and also, create more longitudinal suppleness, which will benefit your horse greatly while being ridden.
So often when riding we think of suppleness as bending and flexing from left to right and while this is true, this is lateral suppleness. Working your horse long and low helps with his elasticity and flexibility from tail to poll, along his back, which is essential to his correct development.

Let's talk PREHAB and why core strength is important?
If the core muscles are properly strengthened and conditioned the horse is better set up to avoid injury. Increased core strength will help the horse deal better with being ridden, helping them to carry the rider with ease and prevent back pain or resistance to work. Strengthening your horses core will make it easier for them to transfer the weight from their front end to hindquarters. By engaging the hind end, the front end will lift and feel lighter, and exercises should start to feel easier.
