Wieland Forge I produce historical ironwork replicas based on archaeological finds. For orders, please contact on My name is Jason Green. I am a blacksmith and farrier.

I started my apprenticeship as a farrier back in 1987, training for 4 years before qualifying in 1991. In 2001 I decided to give up horse shoeing and enter the world of blacksmithing. It was all a bit overwhelming at first, learning different skills and running my own business. At first I went down the general ironwork route, making gates, railings and sculptural pieces. Shortly after, however, I

got into historical blacksmithing and haven;t looked back since. I am a member of Vikings of Middle England re-enactment society where I started making Viking age weapons and domestic wares. My main interests are in the early Saxon to late Norman periods, but I have made items from many other historical eras. I have made ironwork for films, TV, museums and castles. I have ironwork in Portland, Dover, Rockingham and Warwick castles. When away with Vikings of Middle England I also do demonstrations on early medieval blacksmithing. Using a charcoal forge and bellow I create knife blades, arrowheads, fire strikers and other items. A recent commisssion of a blunt 15thC poleaxe. Loosely based on one from the Wallace collection and not as ornate. I don't normally make the spear points as it makes the head slightly heavier but this didn't end up too bad. I've started making the handguards out of 3mm plate steel just to make them a bit stonger so I'll se how that goes. Total length from tip to butt spike is 170cm.

One of my personal projects I got finished over the Christmas holidays is an 18thC Coehorn Mortar. I belong to an American War of Independence Redcoats and Revolutionaries. It's the 250th anniversary this year so i've got lots to get done before it starts. I made the barrel (Which is inert) from offcuts of hollow section and the base is planked timber. So I can lift it and transport it easily. I do have a firing cannon as well which I made a few years ago.

A couple of spearheads I made recently. Both are early Anglo-Saxon based on originals found in a grave in Buckinghamshire. The large head has a corrugated blade and is around 17" long. It has an open socket a common feature of the time. The smaller of the two has a central rib running down the blade and is 10" long. This has a short welded socket. I made both in antique iron, something I've not done since 2019BC (Before Covid) I was fretting a bit as both blades are tricky to forge due to their section but I think they came out alright.

PARK AND RIDE
Due to the overwhelming popularity of TORM we have had to find more parking. For your convenience and free of charge we are providing a free shuttle bus if the Centre car park is full. It will be constantly shuttling between the centre and the new car park. You will be directed to park there and get the bus by the Centre staff. We will also announce this on FB and you could go directly there.
It is situated close by on flat ground. See map.
Location - at end of village at Somel Tent Hire CV8 3ER
Operated Saturday only
Times - 10.30 - 1600
Disabled Parking will remain at the Centre.

Thanks to everyone who came to TORM and made another successfull weekend. It was great to see friends and meet new people after spending months in the workshop making. A new reenactment season is about to start and lets hope its a good one (Well dry anyway) Hope to see you all again in November,Cheers everyone.
