Top training tip for you. Each week I cut up a big block of the dogs favorite pate and pop it in the freezer. Because of the small chunks I can just grab a hand full when I need some and it defrosts in a few minutes. That way I always have some training treats to hand. If I don't, then I find I don't train as often as I would have to go and chop treats up first and then I would have talked myself out of training my dogs 😂

So many people who come to agility classes tell me that their dogs are excited when it's agility class day. As a trainer it makes me so happy, as I know dogs love coming to classes. I've heard so many different things that their dogs do, from waiting by the door, to getting excited when they're in the car on the way to classes. What does your dog do when it's class time?

Here's another example of how I use reward placement to train when I'm on my own. This time I'm using Solar's favourite, almost nothing left of it, toy. In this exercise I'm layering the jump to the right of the long jump. By placing the toy in front of the long jump, it allows me to move further to the side of the jump, away from the long jump but it rewards Solar for taking the jump I'm asking him to do rather than the jump I'm next to. Layering and independence are now part and parcel of more advanced agility courses and need to be trained in anticipation of getting these skills on a course.
