Another exciting opportunity has arisen for someone to join our team! This time on a full time basis!

We are looking for someone who has a passion for animal care of a variety of different species inc aquatics, reptiles, birds and small mammals!

Daily job roles will include
- Care of animals across all sections, providing food, water and clean enclosures on a daily basis
- Assisting customers in a shop setting with their purchases
- Advising customers on how to provide the best care for their animals
- Completing daily health checks, temperature and uv level checks and recording the information across a variety of species
- Assisting with deliveries that arrive in store

We are looking for someone who
- Has previous experience working with a variety of species - training will be given but a background knowledge is advantageous
- Has retail experience and experience handling money
- Must be able to work weekends and bank holidays
- Can work well as part of a team and independently
- Has a good attitude for customer service

The pond season has definitely kicked off. I installed this pump and UV on this fishless pond yesterday. We love Oase equipment. A Vitronic 36 watt UV and a Eco Max 11500 was installed on this pond which we cleaned back in November. We bought the equipment from who have probably the best prices on Oase equipment in the UK at the moment. You definitely need to check them out 👍.
The brickwork now needs re-doing but the client is handling that bit.

Still looking good. Like with any reef aquarium we've had a couple of teething problems but they are under control. The fabrication guys are in the process of building the covers for the base. It will look very impressive once they have done that I'm sure. Can't wait!

Working on a design for a new reef installation at the moment. The aquarium is going to be viewed from both sides and partly from one end. Please note that I haven't included the Herbie style drainage plumbing feeding into the roller as it is on a separate diagram to this. The aquarium is around 2m long and we plan for the aquarium to be rimless with 3 Hydra pendant lights above. What would you add or take away from this design?

This aquarium is starting to grow a little too well and needs a major cut back. It is a nice problem to have. This system is run on a modified Triton method using supplements and ICP testing. I love working on this aquarium.

Action shot of Dave working on this cichlid aquarium. This aquarium gets monthly visits from us. We clean the filter, glass and rocks. Also we replace the carbon and filter wool plus undertake a water change. This keeps the aquarium looking nice for the guests at this luxury holiday let.

Parrot fish are striking in appearance and engaging in their behaviour however they are often frowned upon by many in the industry. Ethical concerns over these 'test tube' hybrids mean that many professionals don't like them. Personally I find it hard not to like them and find it strange why some want to draw the line here. I believe that they are sterile fish and will not breed successfully and therefore can't muddle genetics of other cichlid species. Surely these are of less of a risk than muddled rainbow fish or Malawi Cichlid genetics which can effectively wipe out a species in the wild by muddling the gene pool? Then what about fancy goldfish and even fancy guppies. Surely the inbreeding/selective breeding for deformities isn't in the best interest of the species? It's a funny old industry.

We maintain all sorts of aquariums. One minute we can be working on a large coral reef tank then the next a small goldfish aquarium. This particular aquarium has a bit of a mix, made up of Clown Loach, Parrot Fish and Rainbow fish. We look after each as if it were our own.

A maintenance visit to one of my favourite aquariums. This aquarium runs on a modified Triton method. The client carefully adds reef zelements supplements and I do a couple of small water changes a month. During these water changes I siphon the sump, clean and top up the reactors and algae wipe. Some of the corals in this picture are partly shut down as I've just run the algae magnet around. Time I think to do some heavy pruning as many are getting out of control!

We maintain a wide variety of aquariums in both commercial and residential locations along the South Coast of England. This particular aquarium is in a retirement home. It is set up as a low tech planted aquarium with mainly rainbow fish. It is a real hit with the residents.
