You cannot reinforce fear
(Not sure why the sound cuts off at every clip but Iâm far too lazy to solve it, you can get my point)
There is no place for tools being used on street dogs (or any dog)
The seemingly hardest thing for people to do (especially men and elderly women for some reason)⊠ignoring dogs đ donât be putting off that âall dogs love meâ energy- every dog pro within a mile is rolling their eyes
Another huge success in the bag for Team Valo đȘđ„ł they are unstoppable!

You NEED theory AND practical skills to be an epic trainer. Agreed?
Ziaâs progress with her dad đ©·
Zia isnât actually super fearful of other men and warms up to them relatively quickly
But with her dad she has always had a barrier up. Even though heâs a super lovely bloke and has never once even complained about Zia wanting to keep her distance! Sheâs not the only one, this is something a lot of people and their rescues struggle with
BUT, there is always a way to grow the relationship
Slowly but surely Zia is growing in confidence around her dad. Her mum reports that sheâs actually more respondent to him on a walk!
Zia is young and has her whole life ahead of her, and Iâm sure that with the current level of consistency and effort this family puts in, she will be able to enjoy that life with a strong relationship with her dad đ
Well done so far team Zia!
Can you relate? I can help. Reach out đ€

Adopting a street dog can feel lonely
You will get unsolicited advice and harmful comments
âYour dog will get over it just make them do itâ âwhy did you adopt from there, we have enough dogs in this countryâ âyou need to the the bossâ âyour dog is anxious because you areâ âI could never have a dog like thatâ
Nothing that benefits you in any way
Seek out others who have adopted from overseas. Seek out professionals who have worked with and understand dogs from overseas
Having a community or a professional that you can vent to, somewhere where you can express your emotions without judgement, is priceless in your journey with your foreign rescue
If youâre feeling alone or isolated, you donât need to feel that way as there are many, many people in your position
My favourite page is: Meesh Masters Romanian Rescue Dogs Community. Itâs a closely monitored page that is kind and isnât full of harmful advice. I recommend this page to all my clients đ€
My DMs are always open if you need a chat

Dog trainer reacts
Situations like this are easily avoided
Keep your hands to yourself and educate yourself on dog body language
The amount of FREE resources out there for learning how dogs communicate is immense
Teach yourself and teach your kids, so that the next generation can avoid getting into trouble with dogs
It all starts with dog body language and communication. I dread to think how many dogs have been relinquished for snapping/biting, just because they had exhausted all their warning signals that were never being acknowledged
Drill it into yourself and those around you that you should not be touching dogs you do not know, regardless of if their owner says âthey love being patted on the head!â
Because with that shocking statistic of only 24% of people being able to consistently identify when their dog is worried, the chances are the owner doesnât know what their dog is saying either, just like in this clip

They didnât ask to be here
Before you choose to bring a dog over from a different country, you need to be totally prepared to do absolutely everything you can for that dog to help them adapt to life in your country
Your idea of what life will be like with a dog may be completely different
You may need to spend a lot of money on medical and behavioural care
You may need to rearrange your entire life
This is a contract you need to sign with yourself and your dog, before you even start looking for one
A huge part contributor to the issue of foreign rescues being brought over and not suiting their homes, is that the rescue organisations do not do their job properly
They are not preparing families for what to expect, and not supporting them. Or they are providing sh*t support filled with abusive trainers and outdated methods. Some rescues are still telling their adopters that their dogs are behaving the way they are because they donât know their place in the house hierarchy!
These organisations need to do better. They should have an obligation to have the best, most modern, scientifically-based support for their adopters. With certified professionals who have observable expertise when it comes to foreign rescues
And it should be a no brainer that these dogs NEED to have rescue backup. That is a non-negotiable
Adopting a dog from overseas is not for everyone. Speak to the majority of my clients, they will tell you it is hard f**king work. Blood, sweat and tears type of sh*t. Life changing sh*t. Rescues should be being brutally honest with their potential adopters
You could be lucky. You could adopt a foreign rescue that was destined for a domestic life. But, is it worth taking that chance without the proper support and rescue backup? I think not
