It might mean some people may not receive one if your horse was due their 6 monthly appointment around now, some may receive them slightly later than expected and some may still receive one even if we’ve recently seen your horse.

Something to brighten up a dreary Sunday evening....... an introduction to our newer members of staff. If you haven't already met them, here they are:
Dewi- the wannabe collie ( he's actually a lurcher). Youngest member of staff so please bear with us while we attempt to train him up 🥴.
Dixie - the black spaniel .More established team member who is partial to hiding a sponge or two, so if you have any missing, please contact Ashley 😉.

❤️❤️ A TRIBUTE TO JOEY ❤️❤️….
….our dear and much loved companion, ‘brother’ and the constant in our lives. We will always be so grateful for 12 years of joy and smiles you gave to everyone.
For those of you who didn’t know his beginnings, he was brought to the practice where Anna worked, as an injured puppy in need of some veterinary attention and a new home. His courage and character shone through from the start, within minutes of his operation, he took his first 3 legged steps and never looked back. He could easily clock 25mph in his younger years!
He was a people dog, reflected in his countless fans he had at the hundreds of yards he visited in his lifetime. Everyone loved Joey. It was not uncommon for him to attach himself to a passing walker and have to then be retrieved by Stuart, several miles away from the yard he had started at. Perhaps the most embarrassing retrieval was from an air strip one day….📞📞 “Please could you come and get your dog, he’s about to be run over by a plane!” and the luckiest recovery, from a client’s swimming pool!
He also loved his food and despite having impeccable manners when it came to food on plates, which was definitely out of bounds, a sandwich or sausage roll left in a rucksack on the ground was fair game. And most the time the evidence was very quickly devoured before the unsuspecting groom knew any different. But when he appeared one day with a 2 foot long baguette in his mouth, a more time consuming meal, apologies had to be made.

The bond between people and their pets is truely special and in memory of Joey, we will be making a donation to Street Vet, an organisation that provides essential veterinary care to the pets of homeless people who rely upon their unconditional love so much. https://www.streetvet.co.uk/

So finally, to our numerous clients who will undoubtedly ask “Where’s the dog?”…he is resting peacefully, forever in our hearts 🥰

🎉🎉CONGRATULATIONS 🎉to Cassy for passing the BEVA/BVDA examination and becoming one of less than 150 equine dental technicians and vets in the country to have passed this exam. Successful candidates have demonstrated a high level of proficiency and skill through both practical and theoretical assessments undertaken over several years. No rest for the wicked however, back out to work today!

The BE season is nearly upon us and consequently this is the time of year when we are busy visiting the eventing yards (trying to catch them before the ground dries out and xcountry schooling starts!).
We love hearing about all our client's achievements in this discipline, including this chap, 'Gizmo' (Hunter Valley II) who is on track to compete at Badminton this year. On average we treat approximately 10% of the Badminton starters each year, so it's always fun going to watch them compete! 🏆🏆

Thought we'd better fill everyone in....
Stuart came off his horse last week and took a bit of a knock to the head but after a couple of days in hospital, he's now back home and seems pretty much back to normal (or at least, we can't see much difference from how he was before the fall😉) He's having a few quieter days this week but then should be back up and running. Ashley and Cassy are still working so we are still taking bookings. Thank you to everyone for their well wishes.

With the dressage out the way, good luck to our clients in Tokyo with the rest of the competition.

Not the test we were aiming for today but taking forward a score of 28.9 to keep Team GB in a strong position with all to play for on Cross Country day tomorrow.

📞📞📞"Can you come and make teeth?” a frequent request this time of year from the argentine polo grooms and players (the Spanish to English translation for ‘can you come and do my horse’s teeth’!)
May is upon us, this is traditionally the start of the Polo playing season.
March and April are some of our busiest months, treating over 400 ponies in their pre-season checks.
We love treating these ponies and they appear to love their job too. They spend half the year out at pasture in a ‘natural’ herd environment and the rest of the year they get to train and play with their mates as well.
In latter years, there is an increasing trend for the retraining of racehorses into polo ponies, which gives these horses a second career. This, along with the fact that they can play well into their late teens, means that they have a long ‘useful’ life.
Often the best polo ponies are mares.
You can always have a go at one of the local polo clubs if you fancy a whole new equestrian experience!
