Educated Animals - Leicester Educated Animals (Leicester) offers behaviour services for pets throughout Leicestershire.
(11)

Educated Animals is owned and run by Jo Welch who holds an MSc in Clinical Animal Behaviour as well as a Postgraduate Diploma in Applied Animal Behaviour (focusing on the prevention of behaviour problems in puppies) from the University of Lincoln. Jo is a member of several behavioural and training organisations including the Association of Pet Dog Trainers. Our training approach is based on the so

und scientific principles of learning theory. This means that we aim to motivate and reinforce your pet when they perform the behaviours that we wish to see. By allowing animals to learn at their own pace and by gently guiding them, we encourage them to willingly participate so that training is something we do with them, rather than to them. This in turn allows pets to build confidence in themselves and trust in us. Through extensive experience, continuous professional development and recognised qualifications, Educated Animals is proud to offer pet owners up-to-date and modern training, with our central ethos being to promote the welfare of all the animals we work with. UPDATE: We are delighted to announce that Bear now has a new forever home. He has landed on all four paws and settling in incredibly quickly! Thank you to everyone who enquired, shared and helped make this happy ending happen.

POST: Handsome Bear is a 4-year-old Rottweiler in search of an active, knowledgeable home that has previous experience with Rottweilers/Bull-breeds or large dogs. Bear lives up to his name and is very cuddly, friendly, and playful.

Bear has been well socialised; his owner put lots of love and time into making sure he grew into the polite, lovable 55-kilo giant that he is today. We are looking for someone who is able to continue the good work his owner started and provide ongoing training. He is a bit fearful at the vets, so he will need some positive reinforcement with this. Of course, our marvellous Animal Welfare Team will be on hand to give the best advice on how to help him overcome his fears. So, a kind, patient vet nearby would help.

Bear loves people. He is good with children and very happy to say hi, but sometimes he doesn’t realise his size and jumps up for a bit of a ‘hug’ so it would be best if he were placed in a home without young children. He is dog-friendly and could happily be homed with a companion dog if they were the right match. He is relaxed when left home alone and is immaculately clean in the house.

He might be big, but Bear is a softie, and he will settle well into his new home as long as he has his special blankies that he carries around for comfort. His other favourite things are people, walking, sniffing, and his Kong. Bear sleeps on his own bed in the bedroom and enjoys a cuddle on the sofa.

We are seeking an active, experienced home for Bear with someone able to provide consistent training and firm boundaries. Bear is currently in Berkshire but is happy to travel anywhere if it means he finds his perfect forever home.

Can you help? Or perhaps you know someone who would be perfect. Tag them!

The Cinnamon Trust pays the vet bills for the life of any pet we place in a foster home. We offer holiday cover and provide 24/7 support and advice with the help of our Animal Welfare Team. If you think you can help, please email [email protected] or call 01736 757900.

Pain in cats is often undiagnosed - this research is looking into how we can learn to tell when our cats don't feel comfortable. Pain limits enjoyment of life and can lead to behaviour issues such as over-grooming and aggression.

🔬 🐱 Can cat caregivers reliably assess acute pain in cats using the Feline Grimace Scale? Short answer – yes, they can!

🐈 Being able to tell when a cat is in pain is extremely important for their health and welfare, but caregivers and veterinarians alike agree that it isn’t always easy.

🩺 As a result, scientifically validated assessment tools are now used by veterinarians to reliably assess acute pain in cats. One of these is the Feline Grimace Scale (FGS) which uses five key facial expressions; ear position, eye tightening, muzzle tension, whiskers change and head position.

🌎 In a recent study, over 1,500 cat caregivers from 66 countries used the FGS to score ten images of cats in varying degrees of pain. The results were then compared to the scores assigned by experienced veterinary surgeons.

😻 Total FGS and individual facial expression (called ‘action unit’) scores were not significantly different between caregivers and veterinarians, except for muzzle tension.

🌟 The FGS could be a useful tool to help cat caregivers monitor for signs of acute pain (eg after surgery, such as neutering), and contact their veterinary team if they’re concerned.
