Ensuring your backyard flock has adequate nutrition and a balanced natural diet is paramount to their overall health. Poor nutrition or diet can cause a number of issues in poultry including: digestive health issues, a reduction in egg laying or egg quality or poor feathers. As a basic diet, we often recommend a commercial layer pellet is given along with some grit which will provide the bird with a good nutritional foundation. Grit is an important but often forgotten part of the diet and aids the birds digestive system so as it can more easily breakdown food as it passes through the gut.
The Chicken Vet has a range of nutrition products which have been specifically curated with the backyard bird in mind. For a summary of our full nutrition range, look out for our next series of posts
