Walking times may change due to the temperature changes over the next few weeks. We will start earlier to try to finish before the temps are too high. Walks will more than likely be shorter so a) dogs are not out in the heat too long b) we can get round to all the dogs
Walks will be calm, limited running, shady areas and water led.
Please leave a larger than normal water bowl out for your dogs.
Towels that are damp so dogs can lay on to keep cool.
If you have a fan please leave it on, in the room they sleep.
If they usually stay in a room that gets hot please move their bed to a room that is cool.
Keep your curtains/blinds shut to keep house cooler.
Please follow the temperature guidelines when exercising your dog yourself
DO NOT walk your dog out on paths and concrete in high temperatures as they burn their pads
Use a paw balm like Mushers secret to protect paws
If you're going for a jolly out to a nice quaint town for the day in these temperatures, leave your dog at home it will be way too hot for them, they will prefer to be home cool and bored than out in blistering heat and humidity.
It's not all about the sunshine either, humidity is just as bad. If humidity is high through the night it will not harm your dog to not go out for walks even mega early. We often close when humidity and temperatures are high as not fair to dogs to go out.
Get some enrichment toys prepared for dogs and food filled treats in the freezer ready, like filled kongs, lick mats and filled bones.
I hope these tips help you and your dog through high temperatures and humidity. Remember dogs do not die from not going for a walk but do die from heatstroke.
